ipod connection help - e90 m3
Discussion
I have the usb and aux option on my car, and I bought a cable with both the aux and usb out and the ipod connetor at the bottom (admittedly off fleabay, because the £40 bmy cable seemed a bit steep - but its "supposed to be the same") - but it doesnt seem to work, is it cable or am i doing something wrong?
Should it automatically come up in the aux menu on the idrive??? I get sound out of the aux connection and the usb is charging, but you cant control it on the idrive... any tips on how this is supposed to work???? I'm a bit baffled... Yet for example if I connect an mp3 card it works over the idrive with song titles etc - do I need the ipod songs to be mp3 rather than aac format???
also in the manual it says if you have that option it stores up to 20,000 songs, where do i find them, should they just appear in the entertainment menu under aux - or is this only in conjunction with another option eg logic 7 (which I dont have)?
finally - just an observation - DAB - bit of a waste of cash as an option!! Patchy at best - I think i've managed about 2 mins of listening on DAB...
any assistance appreciated...!

I have the lead from BMW , it connects into the usbaand the aux socket , apparantly its not supposed to work with i-phones but the dealer i bought it of had found it did ,
From memory it comes uo under cd andthen lists the i-pod , i did try a older one and it did not like it .
DAB I have found to be prity good to be honest .

I think you mayhave a faulty lead there. Although it might look like the origional it doesn't mean it is.
I would bite the bullet and get a proper one from BMW at least then if there is a fault it's covered under warranty.
I had a problem with mine turns out it was a software glitch on idrive.
Good luck.
Oh re stored songs I'm not sure.

I was a bit miffed at having to pay the £40 for the lead after buying a new car (note for next time - get it thrown in for free by the salesman) but I just plugged it in and the ipod song directory just comes up on the idrive.
I think you either buy the BMW lead and see if that works or go back to the garage and ask the salesman to show you how to set it up (and if he can't then try a BMW lead).
And I agree on DAB, good sound when it is on signal, but keeps losing the signal and scanning to try and pick back up. I frequently resort back to standard FM or AM.
