50k miles total or 50k miles on new engine?

Is this a pre-face lift car but with face lift lights?

What date was the engine replaced and who by?

But other than that for a pre-face lift with that kind of mileage £9k tops

You can't really check reliably for an impending double vanos failure.

Sometimes they will rattle excessively before failing but not always and some engines that sound like they are rattling alot are perfectly fine.

Prices are all over the place at the moment...I'm looking for one but just can not decide what to go for.....There are a number of 2000 'w' for sale around 10995/11995...Now I think this is too much but one has only got 55k on the clock with 2 owners, great history, just had inspection 11, new tyres all round and looks better than some cars that are 2 years old and the car has face lift lights......So if you weigh up a 2001 face lift with 80k plus on the clock for the same money that may need a service 11 soon, etc the cost is about the same.....God I've just confused myself even more.....

I see there is an 80k 2000 W car in the BMW dealer network at £11995 to.....its green though.

Just a question is a face lift car that different...I'm lead to believe its the lights front, rear, indicators, wide screen sat nav but thats about it...Is that right...

I think I have seen the car your talking about on Autotrader, its looks nice.

I have finally decided to get an M5 but Im going to sell my RX8 before I start driving any. There does seem to be a good choice at the moment.

I quite like the green but the interior of the AUC one is yuk.

Better / nicer steering wheel, fresher looking instrument cluster, oh an dont forget revised piston rings and a modifaction to the vanos in order to help maintain its oil pressure after turning the engine off

Would assume that a 2007 replacement engine would have ring/vanos updates?

Thanks for that...so a few more bits then. So are you saying that all pre-face lift car as not worth looking at...surely a well looked after re face lift is just as good an a face lift.

Don't mind the caramel leather to be honest....it suits the green. Not a colour I would choice though..but you do get a years BMW warranty.

No, not at all - buy on condition and service history and from an enthusiast

From my initial research, it seems most people suggest a facelift car is worth paying the extra for because of the improved engine alone. There are other improvements (widescreen satnav looks far better for example) but the engine is the biggy. Obviously this is distorted if you're looking at a car that has the updated engine fitted.

As above the one I'm looking at is a W 2000, 55k on the clock, first owner from 2000 to 2009, then 2nd owner....just had inspection 11, lots of other documented work and all bills for every bit of work from day one. 4 new tyres, all wheels refurbed and hardly a scratch on her and no wear to the interior at all. It had the vanos sorted under warranty at 36k...asking price is 11995....now I think it is too much but I've loooked at two face lift cars for around the same money and a bit more and have not been any where near on condition or history.......So my dilema continues.

I bought a 1999 model last year --- with facelift lights.
has no sat nav, I have a tomtom and generally know where I am going so not too bothered!

Vanos was done a few years ago --- I paid £8500 with 83K on the clock - its now done 87K - driven to Brussels and France quite a bit --- love it --- does consume oil apart from that its fine, will need new break pads in about 3 months apart from that and a few very minor things no problems at all.

In an ideal world I would go for a facelift model especially if its fully loaded but with these cars, its the service history and condition thats more important.

My Lemans Blue Dec 2001 car had over 100k on the clock when bought her but was in far better condition than several 60k-80k cars I looked at.
She is fully loaded with every extra apart from the rear blind and has total documented history from day 1. By the end of the year she will be a 570bhp road rocket. Be warned that these cars are very addictive and I absolutely love it. It never fails to put a smile on my face.
This is her through the window earlier today.
