I'm thinking of trading my c63 AMG in for an M3. I'm sure you guys will all say the M3 is better and is quicker around a track but i'm not interested in track racing - just day to day driving although i do like the effortless straight line acceleration of the amg.

I like the AMG performance and the sound although the noise is sometimes a little to much. Its also a comfortable cruiser and has some nice torque.

I've never driven a M3 before but i find them better looking than the c63. Heres the killer bit tho.. i also have an 09 335d M Sport (remapped) so is changing the c63 to an M3 the way forward or just a side step?
Will an M3 match that initial burst of acceleration of the 335d and AMG without having to rev the nuts off it?

Before i bought the 335d and AMG, an M3 was my 1st choice but somehow it didn't work out frown

What do you M3 owners advise?

The M3 is a much more thrilling car than the 335d; much better chassis, far more exciting engine.

My comments are based on comparing an M3 Coupe to a C 63 with sports suspension. By comparison with the C63, there is not as much low down torque, but there is still quite a lot of torque, and the top end is more thrilling in the M3. The engine noise is quite different, more high pitched, but both are glorious.

The M3 with EDC has a much better ride, but is also a little more precise - I presume the better lap times come from this, since the C63 has more power.

The M3 with many features able to be set through the iDrive is a tech lover's delight; the M button on the steering wheel which calls up your preset sporty combination is a good feature,

Comparing the DCT gearbox with the C63, the DCT is a bit more immediate and so has the edge in swift driving, but is not as smooth (though not bad) round town. The control to switch between auto and manual is much more convenient in the M3 (toggle the lever to the right) than in the C61 (find a fiddly button).

In similar very hard driving the M3 showed 15 mpg when the C63 showed 12 mpg. M3 PS2's last far longer than the C63 tyres.

But I don't know why I am giving these opinions: you are obviously interested enough to have a go in an M3.

New RS5 may end up best in class.
