Guys,

Stupid question but my E92 came with pilot sport * tyres and I have heard people say the star indicates they are cups? Is this ridiculous or not? If it helps my car was a November 09 build.

Thanks in advance.

I stand to be corrected but this just identifies the tyre as being BMW approved.

Cups have a different tread pattern. Have a look on Michelin website for more details.

E92's (E90) came with either Pilot sport or Cup plus, which is not the same as the original Cup used on the CSL.
Recently BMW have started to use Continental again which EVO rated highly. I replaced my Cup plus after 5,000mls with another set but frankly found them useless throughout the winter and would only recommend their use in conjunction with a suitable set of winter tyres.

PS2's are in very short supply as I just found out ergo they are a rip off - more expensive for rears than a pair Bridgestone rears for a 430!!!!

I also have cups on an 09, and it won't be long before I need to chop them in for something a little more economical! Having read a few threads on E92 tyres can I ask why no-one ever mentions the Bridgestone equivalent - the model RE050A I believe. They were great on my previous car and seem good value compared with PS2s & Continental. Cheers

I had a new set of Cups fitted by the dealer when I bought my car and am going to be looking to change them soon even tho I have only done 3k miles. I had Vredestein Ultra Setantas on all my old cars (Z4M Coupe with CSLs, Golf GTI) and found them amazing. I have mates with them on old M3's but has anyone put them on the E92. Keen to here views. Works out at about £800 all in.

Thanks

Ollie
