Great looking car. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on how it compares with the VXT. I'm looking for a second car (just as a weekend toy
) and I've been thinking along the lines of Elise/Vxt/M3..
I'd love an Elise but I drove a standard S2 and found it a little short of oomph.. I've driven an E46 M3 so know what to expect but never driven (or been in) a VXT

the vx drives like an elise but with turbo power delivery. you really dont have to push it hard to make it go. but in turms of comparison to the m3 they couldnt be further apart.
the m3 is a brilliant all rounder/gt car nice ride nice seats lots of space nice rear wheel drive handeling.
the vx is a pain in the ass to get in to out of. you have to be very good friends with any one els in the car cos your so close. and the ride is so hard i think they may have forgoten to put the springs in mine.
but it is like driving nothing els up to 65/70 the torgue is so much fun just squirting about in it. and it really dose drive like a go kart.
if was looking for a second/toy car i would get a cerbera (had one before the vx) the sound the looks and the way it drives are like nothing els one of the best cars i have ever had and it never broke down not once. not even a flat battery.

I can relate to that
A friend of mine had an early 4.2 Cerbera and I was fortunate to spend some time behind the wheel. I can honestly say it was the most thrilling 4 wheeled experience I've ever had. I would absolutely love one, probably more than any other car, I'm just not sure I could sleep at night knowing how much he spent on his over the year or so that he had it..

Can you explain more what/why you like SMG (question comes from someone who finds SMG the worst of both worlds, lacks the smoothness and instant readiness of an auto, and the satisfaction of a conventional manual - because I love smooth gearchanges, the only way I liked to drive SMG was in manual slowest change mode)?
well from what i understand it realy is love it or hate it.
i take your point that its not as good as a proper auto in auto mode but for me its a brill function to have when sat in traffic because you dont have to sit there pressing the clutch up and down getting leg ache. also once you have "learnt it" a bit you get to no what its going to do. and you can with practice make the changes very smooth even in the fastest mode by lifting just slightley but timimg is key to this.
it dose not take long ive got it prity much sused and ive only had mine a few days.
another thing is that once you start palying with it, you cant stop hooning about in it filcking through the gears i find that it sutes the cars chariter very well
now dont get me wrong i like a good manual box but bmw never seem to get it right for me they all feel notchy and have far to much travel. IMHO

After 8 months of SMG ownership I'm still undecided as to whether I have made the right decision.
+ points:
-No clutch to depress
-Very cool paddle shift and multiple settings to play with
-Lightening fast, snap your passengers neck gear changes in smg 6 (ps I assume you know if you turn TC off you have another faster level of change??)
- Points
- A fully auto mode thats like its from the 80's
- Sometimes decides to go into first, when you are just about to stop and you think its still in second, so you put you put foot down (just as its changing) and nothing...nothing... F****kin hell as wheel spinning into the roundabout. (you do get used to it though)
In a nutshell, in town at slow speeds the SMG isn't great, but when you go for a blast it makes up for it.
ps I thought all M3's had Nappa?
Loveley car btw

Your SMG needs a software upgrade. It should never change down into first unless actually stationary. + points:
