I currently run a 2001 E39 M5 in carbon black 82k miles. I really love this car and I cannot think of anything to replace it other than with a very late pampered car.

I am keeping an eye on the classifieds and there is an 03/03 for sale but it doesn't seem to be a papered queen.

I am looking for as late a car as possible, low miles, proper history, garaged and mint. If your itching to sell please let me know. Some choice mods wouldn't put me off but Red, Green or estoril blue would!

Wouldn't you be better off keeping the car you have now as you'll know some/all of its history and how it has been treated?

It's not like going from a 2001 car to a 2003 car is getting you something a lot younger.

That would be the sensible option but my car is in excellent condition, not virtually new. I have seen a couple of 2003 cars that are virtually in perfect condition having been extremely well looked after. I want to keep the next M5 for a long time so I am therefore looking for a car that has been garaged and is therefore least likely to rust in years to come.

If you're still looking to scratch that itch (to sell that is wink) after the summer holidays, then I may be very interested in yours (depending on a whole lot of other factors of course). My current boring box is coming to the end of the lease contract in November and I'm desperate to get back to 'evo' motoring, with my current favourite being a 1999-2001 E39 M5.

Is your car a facelift?

If so, then I wouldn't bother swaping personally; 82k miles is barely run in for these cars.

Agreed, I have no concern about mileage. It just that I want a the best one that I can find that has been garaged so that I can keep it for a long time.

The M Power mechanic at the BMW garage already has first dibs on the car then followed by a friend. However, they may not find as easy to find the funds now so it may be on the market. Yes it is a facelift.

Hedgetrimmer,

The only car in the classifieds that appears to fit your bill is this one.......

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1540645.htm

Seems a lot of money to spend on the "same car". Is it going to be significantly better than yours and worth the additional £6-7k? I'd suggest not. Get yours professionally detailed for a few hundred quid, have the wheels refurbed if they need it and then see if you still have the desire to change it.

This is the car that I referred to in my previous email. It sounds like a nice car but it has been garaged for the last two years whilst the owner was abroad so hasn't been active. Also, the garage described the car as excellent condition when I spoke to them and were not really that upbeat.

I'm not up for paying Hexagon prices when they have probably slapped £10k margin in each car.

Those cars have been on the system for years. I don't think they exist.

Did you ever buy a car in the end?

Erm, yes. But I haven't picked it up yet.

Weird - the very same output came up in a post on a bmw forum elsewhere about 2yrs ago, with the same response that I gave.
