Hi all,

Just had an Inspection II carried out yesterday and they have notified me that the rear tyres need replacing. The wear is unusual as the inner and outer part of the tyres have tread left in them yet the centres have only 1mm left. Usually the inner wear first but it this seems not to be the case this time.

Any how, the rears at the minute are pilot sports 255/35/19. Im assuming that the profile for the CSL's should be 265/30/19 or even a little wider to allow for the extra width of the CSL alloy. is this the case? Also any reccomendations to what tyres i should buy? should i stick with the Pilot sports or go for something better?

thanks in advance

Styling 67 M3 19" wheel are the same 8X19 & 9.5X19 in size as the CSL wheels, factory fit CSL tyres (Michelin Cups) are however 235/35 19 & 265/30 19 opposed to 225/40 19 & 255/35 19.

Check your pressures fella, if you run high tyre pressure it'll wear out the middle of the tyre first, happened to my last set of conti 3's on my M3

are they brand new set of tyres? In relation to the PSI, i have the rears set at 34psi and the fronts 32psi. is this high enough to cause the rear tyre wear?

225 & 255 pressures are 2.3 bar (33.4psi) at the front and 2.4 (35psi) at the rear whereas it is 2.4's all round for the 235/265 combo.

I always run 0.1 bar more biggrin

Do you have a set for the 18" M-Sport Alloys?

225/35 (could be 40)/18 and 255/35/18

Have you been doing a lot of motorway driving?

Sustained high speed can do this. I had the same problem on the rear of my E36 despite the pressures being spot on.

no i dont do alot of motoway driving but the tyres came with the alloys when i bought them so maybe the previous owner of the wheels and tyres did. Its a shame as there is lots of life left in the tyres apart from the centres as mentioned. think i may opt for the conti sports as opposed to the pilot sports. Good decision??

yeah i got conti 3's on mine and there doing good!!

oh and pressures are spot on when cold but motorway driving would increase the pressure as get hot so would be the same as running them on higher pressure round town
