I bought an E60 M5 from Sytners six months ago, I've done a shade over 2000 miles in it since then and now have a service reminder asking me to get it serviced in 150 miles time. Should this service have been done at the time of the sale?

I know when I've bought E46 M3's in the past, if they had less than 4000 miles showing on the service counter then that service would have been performed as part of the sale.

4k miles is indeed the case, but as it is condition based chances are you have been stop start/short journey driving and it needs it a little sooner smile

Good point!

Idrive tells me that I need the 'Vehicle Check' (whatever that is) and the sparkplugs replacing in 150 miles, do you think they should have been covered as part of the sale?

Engine oil is at 4600miles
Microfilter is at 9000miles
Stat Vehicle Insp / Stat Exhaust Insp are scheduled for 05/2010 - what exactly are these? The car will need it's MOT renewing at the end of September.

As for journey type, of the 2000 miles driven since buying the car, I'd say half is my five mile trip to and from work, the other would be made of of various longer journeys around the country visiting folks, going to airports ect.

Did they stamp the service book? (service should be on the key as well) They didn't when I brought my car and I forgot to check so ended up servicing it pretty soon after buying.

Also I think I might have the receipt somewhere for some of the stuff you have listed (I have an M6 but shouldn't make much difference). I won't be able to get it for a few days but when I can I'll post the costs.

sounds like caveat emptor to me. They don't have any obligation to service the car before selling (other than ensuring its roadworthy) Did oyu ask about when the next service was due?

As an approved used car, the dealer must carry out any service the iDrive is asking for below 4k miles. If your service book has been stamped then it will purely be your driving style which has made it come round sooner. You dont have to get the service done straight away, my local dealer told me 1-2k miles is fine.

The vehicle check is you MOT and is user adjustable, someone has probably done your wrong, just highlight it in the iDrive menu and change it to Septemeber or whenever the MOT is due smile

On certain models, the servicing MUST be done as part of the approved car sale contract if required within the next 4000 miles, hence my original question, to find out what should, and shouldn't have been covered. Yes, I did ask about the servicing as the individual items and was told that everything was 'upto date' within the per item schedule.

I'm not fussed either way, but being used to buying cars and not having to have anything done for at least a year or so, six months and 2000 miles seems pretty short shrift.

Gilford, my driving style is pretty relaxed most of the time, I've averaged a solid 16.1 mpg since taking delivery, which seems to be rather good considering the type of journeys I make.

They do if they sell it as an Approved Used Car - one of the points of the scheme.
