My Sterling Grey E39 M5 (2001)
Discussion
Recently had my wheels refurbished by Lepsons in the UK - my car isn't in terrible condition but has the usual front end stone chips you'd expect from an autobahn stormer of it's age! The wheels were starting to corrode/bubble pretty badly and to be honest, I'd have probably left them, but one of them had started leaking air around the rim and needed sorting as it was getting silly having to check the tyre pressures so often!
Given the wheels all of a sudden looked so clean I decided to spend a little time giving the rest of the car a bit of a going over. I'm not someone who obsesses about cleaning my cars and most of you perhaps do much better jobs, but for me, spending 3 hours cleaning my car (a quick wash, clay and application of SRP and EGP) is about as much effort as I am likely to invest and will only probably happen once a year at best!
I must say, that since being cleaned, my enthusiasm has been boosted a little... I was beginning to think of maybe moving on to something else after 2 years of ownership but am now pretty sure I'll keep the M5 for at least another year.
Bought on 96,000 miles and now on 127,000. 75% of that mileage was in one year as I was using it for the daily commute but I'm now working in the city and catching the train in so my mileage has dropped hugely. Due an inspection two pretty much immediately so that'll be the next expense. There's no history of a clutch change but I can only assume with this mileage it has had one at some point. The previous owner bought her at 60,000 miles and it wasn't in his ownership, so assume it had one before then, which means it may be due another soon.
The only regret I have is in relation to the exhaust. I had a supersprint backbox and x-pipe fitted but found it just too much for the commuting I was doing at the time and a bit too droney. Rather than play around and see what I could do about the noise (maybe just remove the xpipe and put the stock centre section back in) I made a snap decision to pick up a used stock exhaust to refit and sold all the supersprint stuff. Now I'm not using it for commuting I crave a little more noise again!
A few pics...

Is it just me or do most of the Sport versions of the e39 5 series like the one it the picture with M5, always appear to sit a little lower than an M5. I have an M5 and i'm in no way the sort of person to go and mess around with the suspension set ups and have a car that you cant drive over speed bumps properly but i just think the M5 is probably an inch too high... Anyone agree or is it an optical illusion?!

Any chance of a close up of the wheels? Only mine are starting to look shabby and in need of a refurb with the dark chrome finish.
http://nemeiksas.com/stuff/CleanM5/IMG_2381.JPG - I don't have any good photos I'm afraid, I'll see if I can get a better one later. If I were you I'd take a look at this thread: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e39-m5-e52-z8-dis... - I hadn't previously heard of RimFurbish but looks like they do a fantastic job and a little cheaper than Lepsons.

Running two M5's would be a bit too costly!
