Hi there chaps!

I'm beginning to get the breeze up with all you E60 M5 owners bailing out fairly quickly....

Is it the cost/worry of owning one?

Is it the boredom factor.....the need to move on to something new?

Is it that you get fed up accelerating briefly, then hitting the anchors to preserve your life/licence?

For what they are, running costs are excellent.....but they can become obscene at times....

Recently for me....

Two rear PS2s....£795 (was desperate...bought from stealer)

Brake fluid/microfilter....£230

Fuel for the last month....£560

And coming up in August....

Insurance....£800

Road Tax....£400

Tracker subscription....£120

Warranty extension....£800 eek

In the cold light of day, this is all madness.

But rolling the beast out of the garage on a lovely sunny morning to go on a freedom blast, it all makes complete and utter sense to mesmilesmile

Jazzer

PS: How much do you think I'd get for my car? wink

Fuel, insurance and road tax are needed for all cars, albeit not so much fuel. hehe

I've got disks and pad all round comming up, spark plugs and inspection.

I'm still gutted that I got rid of my m5. I miss the howl of that v10 on the open road on my drive home from work and the mad, slamming gear changes at full bore in s6. The main reason for getting rid was that I wanted to get back into an out and out sports car and wanted to get back to a manual - also, if I'm honest, the SMG in anything other than full attack mode was becoming very ffing annoying for daily driving in/out of London.

It'll be interesting to see how the f10 m5 compares ...

PS2's if available are only about £220 each even fitted. Most of the work coulod be done by a specialist at a much reduced price regardless of the warranty and a £60 K car will always cost serious cash to own, even ten years down the line. If the cost concerns you sell and move on to something else!

I'm quite happy with my car thank you, having bought it with my eyes wide open....you clearly missed my point.

New 285/35 ZR 19 PS2s for £220 fitted? Yeah, right!

Please post details of where we can get these.....look forward to that, but will not be holding my breath.....easier to talk the talk than to walk the walk smile

In the last month, I have paid out £1500 for a service including new rear brake discs on the M5.

I have also paid out £1100 for a service on the DB9, with no major parts replaced.

Now my clutch has started to slip. I knew it was on the way out, but the delivery driver left it stinking of clutch lining and it is now fked, so that's another £3k I have to pay next week.

I also paid out £300 today for a refurb of the M5's summer wheels before they went on. Three were not badly marked (two by a of a tyre-fitter who left them wet to obscure the damage, knowing I was in a hurry) and one badly by my wife, in whose defence I'll say that I was directing her out of a parking space.

£6k in a month - owning performance cars is an expensive game! Last month, I renewed insurance on both - £1600 total and I have full NCD. Tax comes up in September. Then we have petrol at £1.20 per litre.

Appologies for the derail, but how do you knacker a clutch on an SMG car? Is it purely through use of launch control? I assume you can't "manually" slip a clutch like with a non SMG car? Why £3K, does that extortionate cost include work to the flywheel (skim etc)? May I ask how many miles your car has done?

Cheers

How come the clutch is going to cost you £3000? I know labour is expensive but surely the clutch (£600 item) + labour comes to significantly less than £3000?

Looks like I was lucky with mine, in 14 months of ownership all I spent was petrol (albeit a lot of) and a brake fluid change smile

That, coupled with Zero depreciation over the period of ownership made it a joyful year smile

I gave them a call.

PS2s remain on back order, with Michelin unable to give a production date.

Mick thinks he can source some from other tyre places, but not for £220 a corner...too good to be true.....would be over £300 anyway, just like places like Elite etc

But when I do need newe tyres, I will give Mick a shout.

Cheers

and given that I had the clutch and then the gearbox repalced all under UACW on my M5 (50k miles) I don't see how oyu should be paying for it at all.

Ah, sorry, in that case £37.50 for an MOT just before I sold it! I wouldn't class the insurance as a cost to the actual vehicle, it is a yearly expense in my eyes, plus mine is put through work anyway smile

Have you considered Falkens? Yes yes, I know they are an inferior brand, but after having 2 M3's and a CSL on PS2's I would rate the Falkens just as good if not better in the dry!

Dont skit them till you've tried them lads!

My new motor has got PS3's all round, seem good so far but I'm yet to press on in damp conditions. Damn work commitments!
