M3 Depreciation
Discussion
I don't get this depreciation calculations:
http://www.whatcar.com/car-depreciation-calculator...
Year 0 Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Year 4
BMW M3 Coupe 4.0 V8 2dr £53,275 £36,626 £31,961 £25,912 £21,268
Whatcar reckon a 3 yr old M3 will be 25k. Funny they are about 35k right now?!

But they're probably not 53k to begin with are they? I don't know but presumably they get a good fat spec on top of the basic price.
After 3 years anything over 55% is pretty good going. Looking in the PH classifieds there seem to be a few around 32k so maybe 30k cash in a few months, not that far off. Although makes the CSL's I'm looking at seem a bit steep!!!

That is worst case scenario figures
a decent 07 M3 with the essential extra's is minimum £35k at a dealer, and a decent private sale is upwards of £32k. After the initial 3 year circa 50% depreciation things slow down, a LOT! A decent E46 M3 will set you back early £20k's so use that as a bench mark.
You'd be stupid not to factor in at least £3k depreciation each year, but I seriously doubt it would lose that much. As long as you factor it in and are aware it is possible, you wont end up in financial melt down should you need to sell
Far too many people did exactly the opposite to the above 18 months ago, and it is at this time when we saw Astons, Porches and R8's around for silly money

Dealers and retailers will rubbish those numbers when you look to buy, and the price at the end of the day will be as high as the market place will tolerate.
Not sure about when you come to px though. What's is the lowest that someone has experienced, or reliably heard about, being given in px for a V8 M3?
I'd imagine that there would also be some standoff arguements with an insurer if you were to write off your V8 M3 too!

Running costs will have a big factor as well. As the price drops with depreciation the market of buyers will (generally) have less cash to spend on normal running costs. This would drag the price lower still because people need to save something off the headline price to pay for the upkeep. I've certainly felt this with the M5/M6 - they're fantastic cars and available at what looks like very reasonable money but the legendary (perhaps exaggerated?) running costs have put me off.
The same might not be true of the V8 M3, I don't know enough about it.
