On a more serious note, it's obviously impossible to tell, but I think it reasonable that the Zed will follow a similar depraciation curve to its predecessor. To that end, ten year old Z4Ms will likely dip below £10k, while the rarer and more desireable Coupe will never drop below £25k*

Except on sunny days when you need a tin opener if you want the roof down! I am biased (see profile)...
The roadster is lighter than the coupe too, but it's not going to make much difference as it's only a few kg.
On the note about depreciation, try and find an 08 or 58 plate. The warranty remaining at the present time offsets a little of that extra outlay, and the car will be worth more than an 06 plate in a few years.
There isn't a huge difference in the prices right now for 2006/7/8 cars. AUC might be a bit different but I am talking private sale prices.
Agree with Texasjohn, secondhand values are all over the place at the moment, although the promise of summer might see prices strenghten a bit.
I recently bought a coupe and the price difference between 40k '56' plates and 10k '08' plates was marginal and seeemed to depend on who was willing to do a deal. In the end I decided to wait for a 08 plate with a years worth of BMW warranty and low miles on the basis that this was easily worth an extra grand, whether re-selling in the short or long term.
By buying a car with manufacturer warranty it also gives you the option of extending this with BMW.
So far the only downside of ownership has been breaking my leg having only driven it 3 times and relegating it to the garage for 8 weeks - can't really blame the car for that.
Value wise the Z3M roadsters go for between 9 and 15k and they are now over 10 years old (for the most part), so if you plan on keeping it for a while I consider that good value. If you just want it for a few months though this could be very different as you'll be selling as winter is looming. When I was looking for my Z4MC in Jan I heard of a number of people being offered in the region of 15k trade in on '56' roadsters and some high milage coupes as well.

but Jan was back when the used car market was in the dumps... its recovered since then and most used prices have firmed up.
The Z4M will always depreciate, but with age & mileage, and I imagine slower than most other cars available today.
I'd actually go against the previous advice, and try and get a 06/07, but one with the BMW extended warranty - you'll get the same piece of mind, and suffer less price drop as time goes on against the younger models.

to the OP, the original new price was silly money...north of 48K list when spec'ed up with desirables (a reason why there is unlikely to be a new Z4M as well given cost of the s35 thingy)
the depreciation issue is up to you - it will be gently if you buy one and treat it as a garage queen barely driving it and keeping miles right down... but unless you've lots of other cars to drive I'd ask why?

At the moment, age still has a say in value. But in a few years it will all be about history, condition and spec. So buy the best you can and look after it... It won't matter so much in a few years if its a 2006 or 2008, but if you only plan on keeping a short while, then a newer car will still have an edge !
