A few days ago the battery on my e46 M3 decided to stop working. Totally dead, dash board lights didn't even light up. Anyway, jump started it and its run for a couple of days before been totally flat again.
I'm assuming at this stage that the battery has just given up. Its the original BWM one by the looks of it so its 7 years old. Does anyone know if this is normal for this age? I don't think i have left any lights on or anything and the only modification to the car is a DICE iPod kit.
BWM have quoted me £134 (80amp) / £118 (70amp)- local motor factors want £100 for 74amp battery.
It currently has 80amp fitted. Oh, and I have not had the battery tested.
Any recommendations? I assume the alternator is ok at this stage as the battery did get some juice.

I think you assume right.
The battery kept dying on my M3 after I bought it, especially if I used it to charge any peripherals.
Got it swapped at BMW with an OEM replacement (whilst they were servicing it) and all good since. At the time I recall there wasn’t a big enough difference in price, so just went BM to make sure it was compatible. They tested the old one and it didn’t even register on their tester, so totally dead even though it would start the car if within a couple of days of it last being charged.
