Guys,

I am looking to getting a comprehensive warranty extended for my car.
Does anyone have any experience of Warranty Direct? I have been speaking with them this afternoon and seem pretty fair?????

I don't want to be paying into a policy to try and make a claim and find out that its classed as "wear & tear" -

Any experiences or Can anyone suggested any alternatives.

AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE

Manufacturers warranty is the only way to go on M cars, do a quick search on here and various other forums to see why.............

Put the money in a separate bank account each year and save it in case of a failure unless you want to be lumped in with everyone else's risk plus pay for all of teh overheads and a healthy profit margin for the insurance company.

Remember that the business model for insurance companies is to maximise revenue (get premiums from you and I - so they will only tell you about the good things during the sales process) and minimise cost (or claims paid out - so they will do what they can to avoid coughing up the readies when you need them to)

Thanks for the replies so far.
The warranty wouldnt be on my z4mc but a Range Rover Sport.

Keen to buy one for everyday use howvever and save the z4m however I fear for having some form of warranty as the research I have done has shown that they may not be the most reliable?

either go manufacturer/dealer or bank a war chest each month....

the third party ones e.g. WD etc will wriggle like hell.

For balance, I've insured our Alfa with WD for a number of years - they've always been efficient & paid what's due - it's an Alfa, so there's been a few claims...
I'd happily recommend them: other than as a customer, I've no connection, so no bias. However, I'd be 100% sure that the big risks are covered to the degree you want them to be - it's an insurance policy, rather than a warranty, so there are exclusions & an excess to pay.

My E46 M3 is covered by Warranty Direct - the policy cost about £650 and so far they have paid out £400 for a control unit and £1,600 for an SMG pump. Couldn't be happier with them - I suspect the reverse is not true though!!

I have extended BMW warranty from Mondial, wouldn;t dream of ANY other warranty. in last year alone I've had around 6-7k of claims and not questioned once! The customer service is excellent, the policy is excellent and the warranty is excellent. I'm SOOOO confused how they make any money. My E60 M5 is £87 a month, NO age limit and NO mileage limit. It's worth every penny. Don;t go anywhere else is my opinion.

I did a lot of research when I was looking at a warranty for my E60 M5 and the best thing I did was speak to my local BMW garage, they didn't even know who Warranty Direct were but they explained how it would work with a 3rd party. Car goes in, they look at it, then they seek approval from your warranty company before doing the work, 9 times out of 10 the 3rd party won't pay the labour charge. There was also the possibility that they do the work, you pay it and then claim it back from the warranty company.

BMW warranty, drop car off, collect when fixed.

One downside to the BMW warranty is that ALL work (servicing and other) done on the vehicle has to be done at BMW, if it's not then the warranty is invalid, with Warranty Direct it can be done anywhere.

M5 Mark - you are one of the exceptions to the rule - they make money because for everyone with a claims history like yours there are 10 people who have made no claims at all.

If they get an adverse claims history from M cars or other performance cars, they will at some point either exclude them, raise the excess for claims from them or significantly raise the premium.

I think you will find that there is an age/milage limit. I understand it to be 10 years or 100k miles after which you can only have driveline cover. Also price increases dramatically after 60k miles if you pay annually. If you pay monthly then the price stays the same which is nice. It's £87 a month for my E46 M3 aswell, including breakdown cover.

That is exactly what I thought, 10 years or 100k. But I asked again this week as I changed my direct debit settings. "IS there a mileage limit?" They said no again! I've had my beast from 18k miles and now on 83k so starting to get worried! I'm thinking I should record the nect phone call as evidence in case they change their mind. It's crazy to have NO limit... but I've asked at least 4 times now and each time they say NO mileage limit.

Either way their customer service works, I would advise anyone and everyone to tale put a warranty with them. The service is just incredible. I will make another post about an example of this now.

Hopefully that link will work correctly. Comprehensive and named component cover not available over 100k miles.
As yours is over 60k miles, do you find the level of cover has decreased or not? Some people have been telling me that less is covered after 60k miles yet you're still paying the same price.

Just looked into it a bit further and it says not available over 100k miles at time of purchasing the warranty. So I guess if you pay monthly you might be able to just keep going. I wonder how the cover varies if at all after this milage mark.
