Just off the phone looking to book the Z4M in for inspection 2 at 46k miles..yeah i know the price... been putting some pennies away for when the bill came.

but, service suggesting aircon regas and filters etc? looks like an extra 150 quid..... "BMW recommends this on cars over three years since manufacture".

Comments please? Will it impact my extended warranty - I've never had to do a regas on the e39 it is tweleve years old, blowing cold as ever.

That's a joke. No reason not to change the filters as why not, they are probably horribly dirty now but I wouldn't get that done at BMW. Halfords re-gas is £20 iirc and is the same as what BMW would do. Just because your aircon is still cold, doesn't mean it couldn't do with the gas topping up.

Ideally you should change the filter/drier after a period of time, as if you get water vapour in the system it can screw things up. But as long as you haven't suffered a major leak / dodgy refill, then the system is always above atmospheric pressure so air/water vapour ingress isn't really an issue

However, as with most things, its probably just as easy to DIY - Halfrauds sell an aircon kit for under £40 and it worked OK on my S plate 540 - twenty mins to do and nice cold aircon again.

a bit of searching and i see a few dealers doing a full aircon service for 70 notes.

i guess i have the special "M" aircon system that adds a hundred quid to the work..... must check to see if there is a ///M badge on the compressor or elsewhere wink
