E46 M3 convertable with 19s
I was on my way up to the Midlands from London for my best mate's wedding and began to get heavy steering vibration at certain speeds, it seemed that if i stayed above 100 it was fine. I knew it could be something serious but soldiered on for fear of missing my mate's wedding!
Anyway it's the front left caliper that's the problem, I've got very sticky brakes. So I want to know what you guys think I should do?
Can I refurb the caliper?
If I replace it do I go for a BMW one or an OEM, or spend a little more (or even less) for upgraded ones?
Do they need to be changed in pairs?
Is it likely that the discs will need changing? If so the above questions apply again to the discs.
I can afford to replace/upgrade, just!!!

Nip over to the M3cutters forum where those who have uprated their brakes have various dicussions. You've asked the questions that cover eveything without indicating what you'd like to do.
Do you drive the car slowly, hardly ever using that M power engine? do you drive with occasional short bursts of speed where it's safe to do so? do you drive fast and safe? do you drive like a loon? are you a track day enthusiast? do you like to modify?!
cheapest will probably to get the sticky calipers cleaned and reconditioned.
Best solution would be a set of StopTechs, KSport or AP big brake kits.
Ask yourself what and how you use the car and the driver you are, look around, and choose an option which suits you.

What would you do?
It is normally relatively easy to refurb a caliper and most BMW specialists should be able to perform this with their eyes shut. The parts are relatively cheap from BMW. I dont think you will need to replace disks unless they have really overheated/warped. Upgrading ain't going to be cheap. You occassionally see ex CSL brakes for sale on ebay and I think they are an upgrade so it might be worth looking at these. Just noticed that their is a set within the BMW parts section on Pistonheads.
