Popped into Sytner BMW Nottingham this afternoon. Outside was a new Alpina B5 in white on foreign plates - looked very nice, in fact i would go as far to say, the best looking BMW to get the Alpina treatment. I think BMW have done quite a good job on the new 5 series - the M5 is going to look the dogs imo.
Oh, and also saw a brand new E92 M3 in matt grey paintwork ( 'individual' option paint at the cost of £1800 ) - looked absolutely awfull. Terrible waste of a good car, finishing it in an unfinished matt look hurl

Funnily enough I was in Sytner High Wycombe this afternoon, and there was a new matte grey (frozen grey?) M3 parked outside with E46 CSL alloys on it, and I agree what you say about the matte finish. Looked good on the CSL alloys though smile
Mind you, the frozen grey M3 outside looked a lot better than the matte black finish M3 that was in the showroom which looked like some chav had attacked it with a aerosol can rather than £70k's worth of BMW.

That could be the car Autocar drove over from Germany for the FOS, they gave it a good write up...

Had a good look over the the matt grey M3 and sat in it b4 the crowds turned up at the Goodwood festival of speed. You have to see the matt finish in the metal to appreciate it. Alpina B5 was there too and looked as mean as ****

You could be right, a couple of years ago when Autocar did the 0-100-0 article, they used an Alpina B3 biturbo - the exact same car for the Autocar test was from Sytner Nottingham. That car did very well in the test, can't remember exactly what they pitched it up against, think it was a Subaru and Monaro VXR - and it beat them both smile

Alpina's...great cars. Just don't buy one new...depreciation isn't funny. The 3 series diesel one might be okay though.

BMW must obviously think it's great as they had one at the Nurbring GP circuit in exactly the same finish. Looked better really close up than from a distance.

Alpina's always seem overpriced to start with - the M models look better value imo.

Isn't this the paint job that you can't wax, polish, protect, sneeze near etc and must sign to say you wont do any of the mentioned when you purchase it from BMW?

yes

Comes with a BIG sticker in the middle of the window to remind you of this on purchase biggrin. Wonder if the paint looks the same after 3-4 years, i can imagine with wear and tear and not being able to 'polish/buff out' scratches e.t.c. ....

Here is an identical M3 with the 'matt' paint - http://bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/auc/car_details/0,,1260_159...

Doesn't look too bad from the piccies - in the flesh looks awfull imo. Big gamble someone ordering this finish without seeing a physical car/sample. Wouldn't be too bad if it was a wrap that could be removed.

Isnt the 507 HP refering to the power? I'm sure the info said it was 507BHP.

"On offer is a smidge over 500bhp and a useful 516 lb/ft of torque from the 4.4 litre, twin turbo V8 lifted straight out of the B5′s big brother the Alpina B7. That power is enough to give a 4.5 second 0-60mph on the way to a top speed of 191mph (which is where the Alpina will always win over BMW’s M5)."
