Air con - burst pipe

A couple of times recently I have noticed a slight burning smell when accelerating. Then, last week, I went back to the car and noticed some clear liquid in the gutter. It wasn't water and on the tip of my finger it felt like chemicals of some sort. Then I tried the aircon and it isn't really cold. This all makes me think that something has burnt through a pipe somewhere and the refrigerant has escaped.

Any ideas on where the burning smell is coming from?
