Hi

I recently bought a late 2005 M5 and it's been out of BMW warranty for a couple years. I'm looking to get a suitable warranty on the car equivalent to a manufacturers' warranty and so far I'm looking at Warranty Direct and Warrantywise, who both offer what seem like good products at similar prices.

I just wondered what others out there have done for warranty and would appreciate your suggestions and experience.

Thanks

Can you not get the BMW warranty now even though it has expired?

Well I tried my local main stealer yesterday - computer says no.

However, he did suggest I try BMW UK - they don't open Saturdays so I'll try tomorrow (the main dealer didn't think they would offer a warranty though...)

BMW and the warranty providers are very strict about renewals. Unless you have a continuously running warranty or you buy a car from a stealer, once it's out of warranty, it's out of warranty.

You can still take out a genuine BMW warranty with their UK agents, Mondial. Use the BMW number he gave you. It will only take effect 1 month after you take it out but it's 2nd to none. DON'T even waste money with any other warranty, they will promise the earth but won;t pay main dealer prices and will want to see every single item claimed for. I've used my BMW warranty several times, around 8ks worth in the last 18months and NO problems at all. Wouldn;t consider any other warranty at all.

Cheers Mark that's helpful. I'll check them out tomorrow.

Incidentally, Warrantywise and Warranty Direct are telling me that they have removed the rate caps and will pay main dealer rates now under their latest policies

Thanks again for the info guys

Just gone on the Mondial website and cover is available, starts with a months delay and works out (with a slightly higher excess) to a similar price to Warrantywise and Warranty Direct.

Way to go!! smile

Hi Its amazing the guys at BMW dealerships don't even know you can re-warrant the car, this has been the case for over 3 years. (I think they want to keep it quiet as this is the only real benefit from buying at BMW. (apart from the coffee)
Prices are £897 with £250 excess upto £1230 with no excess or £113 a month (on an M5)
Any BMW that has full service history and Sub 100k (does not have to be main dealer) can get a BMW Warranty even if its expired. (Once in the Warranty you have to use BMW for Servicing)

Warrany Direct are slightly cheaper, but are buy far the best of the rest and cover wear and tear and high BMW hourly rates
Warranty Wise - dont.

I'm going to go with BMW, they have always been excellent and hassle free (no paying upfront and claiming etc), and £113 a month for peace of mind to drive a car as good as an M5

Just need to find myself a M5!!!

From experience, the cost roughly doubles after 60k with Mondial.

Also, If its an 05, check its history, find out if it's had the high pressure oil hose replaced. If not it probably will need it sooner or later. Apparently there was recall of 2005 cars. Mine didn't, it took 14 weeks to fix, but I doubt that would happen, unless you live in Cardiff.

Thanks for the advice - I'll get the hose mod checked.

I signed up with BMW yesterday - warranty goes live in month - I'll just try and drive with kid gloves until then!

What's stopping you from driving without a warranty but if something goes pop, then take a warranty out?

Obviously you would have to wait 30 days before claiming

Thanks, I stand corrected. I was told by BMW that you could not get the warranty if it ran out! Does it cost a shed load more though? Just tried it with a car that is not covered and it came out to over £2k, I am sure my renewal is under £1k?

Its all on the bmw link above.

The various options are also shown and the only caveat is whether your car is over 60k miles - wear and tear also changes after this.

The really retarded part of the warranty is that if you are on 59999 miles, you can renew your warranty for 12 months or even monthly for eternity at the sub 60k miles rate.

Unless this loophole has been rectified.

Nope it still exists! BUT you have to be owner pre 60k and it stops if vehicle transfers. So mine is covered for unlimted mileage and age for just £87 a month smile Guess they don;t expect E60 M5s to do 40kmiles a year smile It's paid for itself a LOT of time over for me now smile
