E39 M5 questions
Discussion
Hello all,
Viewed a few M5's over the past couple of days and was wondering if anyone could answer the following questions:
- Rain gutters - for a couple of cars, the paint had come away whilst another one had the paint intact - is this a known problem ?
- Proximity sensor - on a test drive, whilst sat in 1st gear at a junction the rear proximity sensor started bleeping when a car stopped behind us. Is this normal ? As on my current Audi the rear proximity sensor is only active when I select reverse.
Also if anyone knows of/or is considering selling their facelift car then please contact me
Cheers.

The PDC (parking sensors) should only beep when reversing or when you press the button. But, if you've just reversed they remain active for a minute or two or when you exceed 20 mph.
I'm in Watford if you need a hand when viewing any cars.
What sort of budget have you got? I found the BEST car I have seen for a long long time the other day........http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2117595.htm

Yes we'd just reversed out of a drive way so that would explain it.I'm in Watford if you need a hand when viewing any cars.

The car above is the one I saw last night - not ideal conditions (it was wet and dark) but appeared to be a good 'un. Doesn't have Sat-Nav but I'm willing to go without if the car is in good order. Are you in the market currently ? Or do you know the owner ?
This is another car that I'd like to view:

Prices seem all over the place at present i.e. private sales being offered at near dealer retail.
Cheers.
Not in the market personally. I've had mine for two years. I just keep an eye on the classifieds to watch values etc.
I spent months looking......in the end the best car I found didn't have Satnav. I would have preferred it but the BMW system is outdated now and your average Tom Tom is much better. It does make the interior look more modern though. I looked into having a Satnav retrofitted......£1000 ish......just don't think it's worth it overall.
The other one you've mentioned looks ok. I'd prefer to meet the previous owner though, says a lot about how the cars been treated etc. And I'm not too keen on silver.
Let me know if you go and view the 1 owner one again.....I'll come along and we can have a chat if you want.

On the SatNav front, if you have the later DVD based system, then the bimmernav forum has some updated firmware that gives perspective view, allows postcode entry and gives audible and visual warnings of speed cameras which makes it a lot more useful. Expensive though compared to a Tom-Tom, but more integrated. It works pretty well.I spent months looking......in the end the best car I found didn't have Satnav. Dave
I very nearly went to view that silver M5 myself had I not bought the one I did. They've had it for a couple of months and I *think* it was originally up for 12k. It's very close to me though so if you do go to view it and want a second pair of eyes to come along just give me a shout.
Thanks for the all the advice chaps - I'm now the owner of a Carbon Black facelift car
PPI revealed that the rear ball joints could do with replacing and so I'll sort that within the next couple of weeks. Did around 250 miles in it today and all in all very pleased. It's a bit too quiet though, so on the hunt for some back boxes also.
Cheers.
