After much deliberation over which to go for, last week I fitted 4 new Michelin Pilot Sports, as they are the OEM-fit tyre for the car.

My deliberation was between the Pilot Sport, Pilot Sport 2, or Pilot Sport 3 tyres (yes I know there are plenty of other good tyres out there, but wanted to keep it near to OEM, partly due to the research BMW will have done before speccing the tyre, and partly in case I decide to sell).

Does anybody know if there is a difference in "standard" between the three?

Is the PS3 better than the PS2, which is better than the PS?

Or are they just updates and variations on the original PS design, which are all seen as similar in ability?

I searched for back-to-back reviews but couldn't find much.

The PS3's are the best possible version, not only are they the most modern and technologically advanced but they also have a better tread pattern, most consistent wear rate and offer the best feedback to the driver.

I'm going to argue with this.

The PS3 is not a replacement for the PS2, it's actually a replacement for the Pilot Exalto so is a softer tyre.

The true PS2 replacement is the Pilot Super Sport which is due out this month. This will be the new king of the hill, and a tyre I'm very much looking forward to trying.

As for an E36 M3 EVO I can't help. If I recall the PS2 didn't move things on greatly from the Pilot Sport, which is still one of my all time favourite tyres. Either way, you could do much worse with pretty much any other tyre so go and enjoy that EVO, I'm very jealous smile

I had Pilot Sports on my M Roadster and then changed to PS2s as I understood the Pilot Sports were being phased out. Just had PS3s fitted on one axle as PS2s now being phased out - well thats what my regular tyre supplier told me.
