iDrive menu item

Hi, this a new car to you? I had a similar issue with my M6 bought recently. I also heard of the same issue from someone else who had recently bought an M5. Despite making sure that connected drive was properly set up from BMW's end, I couldn't get the car to activate the services. A lot of diagnostic time later, and having tried updating the software etc, finally had to order a new telematic unit from germany, coded individually to the car. This was also the same for the other case I referred to. I can let you know more if you want.

Yes, new car to me. Any info you have would be most helpful. Also, could this have anything to do with car having a private plate before, twice?
Cheers

Did you buy it AUC? If so, should all be covered under the warranty. If not then I would forget about getting it working as I believe the bill ran into many thousands.. However you could forgoe the diagnostic & just replace the telematics unit & upgrade all the software in the car which is needed when you code a new unit. That would be cheaper I imagine. I think the origin of the problem is that the original owner may have asked for the unit to be deactivated. Apparently if you dont renew the subscription you get an annoying warning light that tells you it isnt functioning. People then would take the car in and the only solution seems to have be to code the unit out of the vehicle order. Somehow this also has the effect of hosing the unit so that no matter what they do they cant activate it again! Heres a link to the problem discussed. I think there was another user too with the same issue..

Many thanks. Warranty you say?
I read that and not sure if its the same thing. I get the progress bar and no error messages. Could be telematics of course.

Update. At the dealer today. Explained the menu problem and then showed the service manager the unaccesible menu options. According to him, this is a problem not with the telematics, but with the menu structure - the software in the iDrive was wrong and this is not the first time a customer has pointed this out.
And just to prove the point he then dialled up service and BMW online etc from other parts of the iDrive menus.
Guess this makes sense, although judging by other comments I might have let them off too easy.
