Seeing as im gonna be neededing some pretty sharpish, what are my options.

Ive got OEM fronts coming in at £493 inc Vat and Postage. I know these are pretty good for a standard item so no dramas there. No issues with warranty.

Ive also got Stoptech OEM replacments coming in at £475 inc vat and postage. They are supposed to be an upgrade part. Are they any better? Will it void my BMW insured warranty if i have them fitted? Do i need to upgrader my pads to match? My front pads are only a few hundred miles old.

For items that are similarly priced, what are the pro's and cons?

I'm happy to be corrected, but I believe that when you change brake discs the pads should always be changed at the same time to enable the two to bed in together.

I totally agree in theory that you should change the pads at the same time as the discs but......... seeing as i have approx 18k left in my fronts, is it really that neccessary to change them? I could just rebed them again surely? They are 600 miles / 1 month old.

I dont know for 100% mate, wait for someone to reply who is more qualified to answer. I thought that brand new pads/discs have a protective "coating" that needs to be worn off, and this helps them to mate to each other. If you've already bedded in the pads to match all the imperfections of the discs they currently work with, if they then have to bed in to brand new discs it will take longer. Like I said before though, this is only what I am led to believe but do not take this for gospel; get advice from someone qualified to give a definative answer. I am happy to be corrected. Personally speaking, if I was changing the discs I would always fit new pads at the same time.

The current pads will be fine, they will have hardly any wear on them (assuming you don't hoon it everywehere) and 600 miles for brake pads is nothing.

Never mind all that, how are you finding the screamer, coming from the previous torque monster?

Well! You can't really compare the two cars to be honest. Being big german estates is about as similar as they get. They both have good advantages over each other but I'd say that the M5 is the better car to live with.

The RS6 has much better fuel economy. I averaged 21mpg in the RS and got 32mpg on the motorway @ 70mph. The M5 is averaging 13mpg and giving me 27mpg at best on the motorway. If I was bothered I wouldn't have bought it though. I just like getting the VPower fuel vouchers every 3 months.
Torque wise the RS has the M5 beaten well and truly, but the sluggish P400 does induce a more relaxed, safer drive.
Ownership is much cheaper in the M5 by my reckoning. The BMW warranty is just short of £950 a year, fully comp. Audi want £2500 a year for the same thing.
I've seen there are very few mechanical faults with the M5 compared to the RS6's horrendous reliability issues. ///M really did build these cars well.

The M5 isn't as quick to 60 as my mapped RS6 was but I think it has it whooped above 100. You can't beat the efficient drive system on these cars. Quattro power suffers hugely with drivetrain losses.
And the engine note at 6k+!! You just can't describe it. Although I do miss the low grumble of the blown V8 in the audi.

Overall, I think I made the right choice at the right time.

Yes, the seemingly perpetual shove into the Subveyronosphere is a marvel.

Good work.

Hopefully this helps! As discussed privately, the standard stoptech pads are ste! I was well happy with them and the BBK until I added serious pagid pads to the BBK, my god they are awsome! Photo gives a good idea of difference

They are some serious rotors. As i said in my OP im not looking to upgrade to a 'big brake' kit, just switch to the Stoptech OEM replacments if there were any improvments to be made. The BBK is awesome though.

Drudging up an old topic... But what did you go for in the end?
Are the stoptech discs better than the OEM?

Also Euro Car Parts have a deal atm where pagid disks/pads are the same price as OEM.
Are they worth a look?

Advice was to either stay OEM or upgrade to a big brake kit. The stoptechs apparently no better than OEM. I stayed OEM.
