E46 SMG cold start problem
Discussion
Hi
I have a 2004 M3 SMG. So, running through the start process, ignition, foot on brake then gear lever to neutral to start engine. At the moment its not going into neutral and when it eventually does (after several times of trying) I start the engine but then it won't change into 1st when I bring the lever back over??
This has only started happening since this really cold spell of weather we're having in the UK. any ideas? is any other SMG owner having this problem?
Fingers crossed its is the cold and not a pump/major issue.
Your feedback would be gratefully accepted.

this same thing happened with my e46 m3 when i owned one 2 winters ago. I ended up needing a new smg pump i'm afraid. Does the orange smg cog light up on the dash, does the brake pedal go really stiff when trying to start?
your only hope is it is a sticky relay - change the orange relay under the bonnet for a fiver and that might solve your problem
good luck shag
