I does not get much better than G-Power really, but you will pay top money
Not so sure - unless they have improved their quality a lot... Some brilliant and ingenious engineering solutions to problems only to see shoddy stuff such as crude mapping or components not up to the job. Similar story with Nowack and their E39 N500 development...Hi Cheburatormk2,
Any examples or links to reference shoddy maps or workmanship to which you refer?!! Was this shoddy map or workmanship to which you refer on your car for instance?
Not jumping on you specifically, but if you can round up every top end car tuner, product manufacturer, specialist etc customers over time, you'll find a percentage of ones saying each one of them is below par, or sub standard or rubbish etc.
All the G Power installs I've seen and spoken to owners of, haven't mentioned anything bad..
Cheers, Dennis!

The mapping on the Z3M left a lot to be desired. Given that they went to town with the hardware on the engine and the supercharger - the engine work alone was EUR30,000 - the mapping was crude. Fueling was overly rich (for safety I presume) and ignition advance was just interpolated rather than true mapped. The car had no part-throttle driveability at all. Sure, at WOT it could outrun an E60 M5 to its 200mph top speed, but it also did 12mpg on the Motorway.Any examples or links to reference shoddy maps or workmanship to which you refer?!! The rest of the hardware is also top notch - the custom water cooled chargecooler, which has welds worthy of Cartier's jewelers, springs to mind. However, G-Power fitted a VAG blow-off valve off an Audi TT, which could not hold more than 0.5bar of boost at best and caused poor running and lack of top end. Now that the car has a proper HKS valve we regularly see 1.1bar at peak boost and a few more ponies.
The funniest one though I have left for last - G-Power installed beautiful Recaro Pole Position carbon seats trimmed in two-tone black/coffee napa and alcantara. As you can imagine, the original seat belts were replaced by Schroth 6-pts harnesses, thus eliminating the piro seat belt tensioners. Given that G-Power went through the pain of producing and calibrating a one off 200mph (320km) ///M Coupe speedo, do you think it would have been that difficult to sort out the problem with the airbag light? I thought so... How did G-Power solve the airbag light problem - by taking the symbol off the cluster and putting a tiny black square made out of sticky tape over the light bulb...
We know that the above were G-Power's doing as they took the car and EUR80,000 + VAT later turned it into the 2001 Tuning show winner for 2wd cars at Hockenheim. No one else has ever worked on this car. Btw, the car overall is a work of automotive art. Only once we got to know it intimately, we discovered a few of the above traits, which in the grand scheme of things were easily improved upon.
Hi Cheburatormk2
Wow, thanks for that! I guess it does go to show that even the absolute top end can and will 'faff' things for reasons unknown.. I think I'd be fuming if I discovered things like that as well!
I've said it before in other forums, but no company gets it right each time all the time with everyone - that's impossible to do. So there will always be a proportion of customers that aren't happy. The trick lies in trying to keep instances like this to an absolute minimum. Seems in this case, they could easily have kept the customer (I presume you!!) happy by being in discussion to try and rectify the issues, no matter how small or trivial it is in the 80 grand scheme of things...
Aiming to minimise customer disatisfaction is a prime concern for me for my own forthcoming venture. I believe with the planning I've done so far, and the way I'll have things setup, I'm well geared for keeping to that and hopefully have no bad feeling with customers when things don't quite go to plan
Cheers, Dennis!

Do bear in mind that G-Power is a different company these days to the one that made the Z3 M described above. Since then they have amalgamated with ASA/Infinitas who make the Superchargers for Alpina. They seem to have a better reputation these days, and if the Supercharged E92 M3 I drove is anything to go by they're producing some top quality kit. Not tried any of their chip tuning machines though.
Can understand the exhaust as the X5/6Ms oddly don't sound that great, but do you really need more power?

Hehe, the supercharger on our Z3MC is an ASA one...
Look, overall I have no problem with G-Power - the Z3MC is a very well thought out and engineered car. If you did not know what you were looking at, you would have assumed that this is how they leave the BMW factory in Spartanburg. They were very thorough - not the usual "just slap a mighty big blower and she will be fine", but have re-engineered the suspension - dampers, ARBs, top mounts, all bushings, brakes - MovIT all round, thermostatically controlled separate oil coolers for the box and diff, custom true equal length headers and exhaust, 6-spd box, new aero front and rear, new interior with a roll cage, new bigger diameter and wider wheels...
Moreover, it was some German night club owner who paid the bill
My brother just took if off his hands a while ago for less than that. For the money we were prepared to live with the crude mapping and the air bag light given that there are not many Z3MCs which can show a clean pair of heels to a Gallardo...

It sounds so flat as it is. Going for freeflow cats and silencer. The ecu mod is just a plug and play should take it up to about 630hp. Car is booked in for a dyno run to get a standard reading then we will run it up again and see how it is when we get back.
Hope to drive over and get work done, try and make it a bit of a road trip
