Need to sell e39 M5 but can't find out mileage
Discussion
I'm going to sell my much beloved e39 M5. As much as I love it I have just bought a new puppy that will become very large very quickly. it's useless in the snow and I need something to get me to work over the next few months.
I went to look at a Range Rover with a view of part exchange but we could not find the mileage on the M5. I'm not sure if I have managed to switch it off or it's broken. The part that shows the date, mpg etc is still working although pixels are missing. I'm sure the mileage was in small numbers just above it but I can't get it to come on. Any ideas if you can turn this on and off and if so how.
Just out of interest the car is a 2001 facelift, silverstone, with between 100 and 105k on the clock. It's not in great condition with a few wee dings etc what should I be looking at for it?

I ignore anything displayed on the odometer unless backed up with service history & MOT records - especially on an M5.
I've seen enough pixel/OBC display problems on e34s & e39s to know that what's on there is not necessarily accurate, and only needs a new board fitted and a bit of laptop software to reset it to whatever you want.
As long as you're honest in the advert and say something like "odometer display faulty, but mileage can be verified via MOTs & service records", then you should be fine - but I'd not expect much more than £7k for a 10 year old M5 anyway.
If it's as cared for as you say, there'll be a pile of invoices/receipts for both general maintenance and scheduled servicing at a recognised BMW or ///M specialist.
