Hmmm that does sound quite genuine to me. How old is the car? Could possibly be perished seals but they normally last 10-15 years easily.

Try posting this in the BMW section, this is for people to show there P&Js generally not a Q and A type of forum. Hopefully you will get a better response there.

Hi Edd,

Might well be genuine but i'd be aware of the risk that the water might saturate the front footwells if the water is of enough quantity. Then there is a good risk it'll upset the electronics under the seats and in the floor pan. Double check the rear window washer is working. Like the Audi range there is a pipe that runs from front to rear via the passenger floor sill that has a connection / joint in it. If it has frozen at any point then it might have popped off.

The OP probably means the E60, since it is a 2006 he is looking at. The E61 was introduced in late 2007 teacher If the car has had any work done to the door cards, the plastic membrane could be damaged if not re-installed correctly. Either way, I would be slightly suspicious as to the rest of the car if there is a water infiltration in the rear footwells.

I'd be wary of the trader. Saying the windown was left open implies that there isn't a difficult to find fault. What's more probable is that it's something which ultimately makes the car less saleable that the trader didn't know about before getting the car in! Try the bmw5.co.uk forum too as there are loads of E60 nerds on there.

If an M5s window was stuck down and at a dealers, wouldn't they put it in the dry, like inside?

Not sure i'd want to buy from a dealer who was daft enough to leave both rear windows down in the rain and snow... Personally it sounds dubious to me.. More like the first excuse that came to hand when a problem they didn't know about was found by a customer.

I was told the safty limits on the rear window kept the window from going all the way and that is why they were left open until they could get it to a garage to have them re-set. The idea that you would leave a £25k outside in the bad weather with the rear windows stuck down sounds a bit dodgy/stupid to me, but that may be the only excuse he come come up quickly. Thanks for all the help. Edd
