What's the opinion on these, anyone here owned one? I've spotted this example for sale near me:

Also, whats the ride quality like on UK roads? I think I recall reading that the roadster had slightly softer suspension than the coupe, which is probably a good thing on the UKs disintegrating roads. I'm doing long motorway journies every week or two so having decent ride quality is important.

Cheers!

I've owned one for 2 years and 30,000 miles - im only selling up because i have a 100-mile a day commute, and its a shame to just sit on motorways all day in it.

What do you want to know? The ride is fine for me - its a little on the firm side, but only really gets harsh on really, really bad roads.

Running costs are surprisingly good - up to 15k between services, oil service costs around £200, inspection 1 around £700... you can get over 30MPG if you take it easy.

As for the car you linked too - very expensive - better to buy private - get one with the official extended BMW warranty and you get the same protection as buying from a dealer, and you'll save yourself £4k - thats a lot of petrol wink

Oh, though ABSOLUTLEY make sure it has had the 1200 mile running in service - so many havent, and its just not worth the risk!

Heh, my old car..

They are good cars. For running costs, expect similar to a E46 M3.

It was quite a firm ride on bumpy roads, but not so much that you'd detest driving it. Easy to get 18mpg when trying hard, maybe 35mpg on the motorway.

That particular car was utterly reliable when I had it, not a thing went wrong in 2 years and it definitely had the 1200 done.

Check the servicing, I sold it at 20k miles in late 2009, it had just had the Insp1 done, so it should have had an oil service done recently and be due the £1k Insp2 around this time next year. If it's not had new front disks they'd probably be due about now too I reckon.

Aye aye chap wavey

The suspension I think can only be described as stiff, irrespective of body configuration. IIRC the Roadster's is slightly softer due to the absence of a roof.

Long journeys are fine; I did a fair few in mine and came out the other end feeling OK. Just watch the mileage though; something like the Zed will be fairly sensitive to big miles.

Not fancy an M3 or M5?

Ello! The newer M3s and M5s seem to struggle to get 18mpg, so that rules them out. I would consider E46 M3s, 335i or even maybe a Z4 3.0 coupe. I thought perhaps the Z4M roadster would be the most enjoyable, especially with the roof down. Perhaps one of the others would be more suited to the motorway though!

From a MD with a year warranty i think the price is reasonable.
