I was out at a local meet yesterday and M5Mark asked me why my exhaust sat so low under the rear beam compared to his E60. I believe the E61 has a different rear suspension set up to allow for extra load but dows this seem normal / sensible? Obviously its the way it came out of the factory but it does sit bloody low. I checked under the car and it looks like the last owner clipped it on a bump / rock as there is a nice little dent where the rear pipes come under the beam. Shame!

The M5 won!

I also noticed this, and it does look like it wouldn't take very much of a bump to have an expensive sounding "crunch"...

A bit OT but the Range Rover Sport seem to have the same "problem" and that's after all in a full blown SUV!

Good point, the RRSport does have this same feature.

Little lower and you can get some ricer sparks flying from it wink Shocking how low it is really, you must get hell on speed bumps!

Wonder how some of the aftermarket exhausts, like SuperSprint, are shaped?

There are not many aftermarket systems for the E61. In fact i think there are only 2 or 3. The E60 has a plethora of options in comparison.

To be honest i think this might be down to the rarity of the car itself. There were only 222 E61 M5's brought to the UK and i think only 1000 were built worldwide. Im more than happy with the standard note at the moment, i wouldnt want it too loud on a Tourer anyway. Ive got to think of my dogs. M5Mark's car sounds ace though.

I just meant if some of the aftermarket systems had managed to shape their exhaust system in such a way that it would give more ground clearance - I trust that the actual sound from the stock system is perfectly fine.

Its positively outstanding when the loud pedal is dropped. I havnt enquired as to whether there are any better designs / shapes out there but i think i might now. Maybe i can get a section made to fit whilst keeping the standard boxes.

You could do just the headers for the power gain and keep the rest of the system standard smile
