Dick Lovett Bristol?
Discussion
I've been recomended to speak to them ref a new clutch, should I need one on the E61. I phoned them this avo and they seemed very friendly and down to earth. They also knew the E60 / E61 M5 very well. The price I got was astoundingly cheap for a full clutch job. I had to ask twice incase he got it wrong first time round.
Before I go any further toward booking them up, has anyone got any experience of them?

Including the flywheel? Thats a main dealer? Cripes - I'll have one just for fun!
I phoned him twice initially and asked him 3 times in all to check the prices and he kept coming back saying the clutch kit included the flywheel, clutch, bearing and some bolts / washers / seals and was £620 + Fitting, coming to circa £1200 all in. Amazed by the price i nipped home, got a list of part numbers and called him back to double check he'd got the right parts. He said that the parts needed to complete a clutch job were all include in the price. When i read him my list of part numbers he got all nervous and said he needed to double check: The part i think he was refering to was this as it says: SET RMFD-CLUTCH PARTS TWIN MASS FLYWHEEL - 21 21 2283089 - £537.50+vat. I checked this back and going on the comparible figures on the net it looks like this is just the clutch pack.
I then read him this part number. TWIN MASS FLYWHEEL - 21 21 2229955 - £979.17+vat. So you can see my concern as inc vat its nearly £1200 itself.
The bearing is another £100 and the bush about £7.50. He will come back to me tomorrow with an update but i dont feel as jolly as i did when he first quoted me. I said that my local dealer quoted £2700 all in and he laughed. He said that was rediculous and that in his experience his quote was closer to the mark.
I hope he comes back and says that he'll honour the quote but i doubt it. lol
If he does i'll pass on his direct number and you can all book up.

Just getting them to double check the quote as I think he got it wrong. He thinks he's right, but at £1200 all in I have my doubts. If it is right then we all need to save a quote from them.
I suppose it's possible.Don't know what BMW are charging for a clutch kit, but Euro Car Parts list a Sachs kit for the E60 M5 at £563 all in. That leaves 600 odd quid for labour.
Obviously £1200 isn't going to include the flywheel, but if the clutch is changed before it's been allowed to slip for too long, then the flywheel shouldn't be worn.
Another poster mentioned Wellsway in Bath. I don't have any experience with them, but I remember them being universally praised on the old BM3W/BM5W forums as being very knowledgable about all M cars, and being very good to deal with.

Just read your last post ecain63, doesn't sound promising. You're not having much luck with BMW dealers.

The thing is that with it being a dealer they are not allowed to do a clutch job without changing the flywheel etc. Its all down to the computer / schedule dictated by BMW Germany. I asked that same question and got a very plain answer. I'd love it to be £1200 all in, in fact i'd buy the guy a crate of beer if he can wangle it.Don't know what BMW are charging for a clutch kit, but Euro Car Parts list a Sachs kit for the E60 M5 at £563 all in. I dont think im having an issue with BMW dealers in general, i think my local dealer is just really bad. I was warned off them before i even bought a BMW but had to give them the benefit of the doubt with them being so close by. They did a good job of my tailgate wiring problem but thats because i told them in great detail where the problem was and what needed doing. Now they are not so receptive!
While you're talking to Dick Lovett why don't you try them in Hungerford? They've done all the work on my last two cars and I have only praise for them. I take all my own service items in, I.e, oil, filters, spark plugs etc, I've just had oil service and spark plug service, codes read and parameters reset for £335. Great on warranty work, they put a new engine in my Z4MC and have just sorted soft close door.

My old M3 went to Hungerford and the work was first class.Edited by CatherineJ on Tuesday 22 February 21:37

Currently sorting my head gasket and cyl head on E46 M3
Spoke to my man this morning and it turns out I was right, leaving the service guy a little embarrased having to tell me the bill would be £2400 instead of £1200. After a bit of a chat he came across to my way of thinking about my issue so is now prodding the warranty department. When I get the result I'll post up on here and on my other thread.

I totally and utterly second that. My M5 is in for a very reasonably priced Inspection 2, some tinkery bits on the brakes and some other consumables.http://www.forzawest.com/contact_us.php
