Hi All,

My nearside wing mirror mount is suffering corrosion (bubbling under the paint).

Whilst it is relatively minor it is still a little unsightly.

I understand this is a common issue with E46 M3's.

Has anybody else had this problem?

Is it easy to respray aluminium parts like the mount?

Have any of you got unblemished mirror mounts or know where they can be bought for less than the extortionate £405 price tag BMW want for the mirror assembly?

Have any of you successfully got BMW to put the damage right under the 12 year anti corrosion warranty?

Lots of questions I know but all advice would be appreciated!

Cheers,

KP

I'm guessing the OP has the electric folding type.

That would be great - only problem its the wrong side! Need nearside mirror mount.

Thought all facelifted M3's had 12 year corrosion warranty?

12 year corrosion warranty started from 2004. I know because my cars was sold 2 days before!

My mirrors ain't auto folding either but I've got corrosion under mine too.

Find it annoying that BMW would spec a vulnerable material on a vulnerable place on the car and then refuse to do anything about it because they deem the mirror to be "trim".

Why didn't they use plastic?

Think I will just have to keep my eyes peeled for the correct part on ebay/bm parts suppliers.

Does anybody know if you can order just the mount from BMW?

I've had 2 sets replaced under goodwill from BMW. The car has a full BMW history & warranty though.

Mirrors are not covered under the warranty or corrosion warranty as they are classed as trim.

Correct - cars registered on or after 01/01/2004 get a 12 year corrosion warranty. Cars before this date got 6 years.

I had the same problem with my drivers side mirror base (phoenix yellow).

Got it resprayed at my local small paint shop for £80, including respraying a couple of reversing sensors, and they made a perfect job of it.
