I've recently bought an upgrade CD for the sat nav in my '04 M3. The instructions all say its simple but I've followed them to the word and now I think I've broken it....

The CD wouldn't load completely, left it 15 minutes and it should have taken 5, just had a blank screen all the time. I did the failsafe IT style 'turn it off and turn it on again' and now the display looks like this;

What I think has happened is this - The new DVD I've bought says that it is for 04 or newer cars with version 4/xxx software/unit and the way to tell that is the unit will have 'DVD' printed on the front. Mine, despite being an 04 plate doesn't have DVD written on it.

Now, I have put the old CD back in to try and restore the old style sat nav and absolutely nothing happens. It also looks like the Sat Nav option on the monitor has dissapeared totally.

My question is, have I fked it?!!!!

ETA - The reason for the picture is that it has never looked like this before, it's always been the normal, dark screen, red writing in a different font with options for 'Computer', 'GPS', 'TV, 'Set' and 'Monitor Off'.

Don't despair just yet. When I flashed my nav to the latest version, using a CDR I burned myself, I temporarily lost my nav option out of the menu as well. I then did what everyone does, google for a solution, and after an hour wasted, I returned to my car, only to find the nav option back again. I then resorted to buying an ebay CD which worked perfectly 1st time smile

Hopefully yours will be the same.

FIXED!!! And it turns out I am a complete moron. Who'd have thunk it, 'eh?!!

Google, combined with Bimmernet did the trick. It turned out that I had partially installed the new sat nav disc that wasn't completely compatible with my navigation unit. This removed the old sat nav first and where it hadn't completed the new install, there was effectively no software. The fix was to download and burn (completely legally, guv'nor) a copy of the new version of my old software and pop that in, robert's your fathers brother, job done, abracadara etc.

So, I have a copy of V26 for MkIII sat nav on a disc if anyone needs it? Guaranteed that it works!!

But then I wouldn't have had such an exciting adventure. And I wouldn't be drinking as early as I am now!!
