Z4M Roadster Purchase Advice
Discussion
I've just viewed a Z4M Roadster and could really benefit from some advice.
The car is 56 plate and has covered less than 7k miles. The running service was completed at 1800 miles, but other than this no other servicing has taken place. The service indicator in the car says 3500 miles until the next service.
I'm concerned that the running in service should be done at 1200miles, but wondered if the mileage of the service is variable based on low usage. I would also have expected some other inspection services to be required in the last 5 years!
Does this sound ok or would you walk away?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Has to have time-based servicing (oil services) every two years regardless of mileage. Also has to have brake fluid done every two years as scheduled. There's plenty of cars out there so I'd walk away from this one. You won't be able to get the BMW warranty as it has missed services plus the general idea of buying a car that has just sat around that long doesn't appeal. The S54 engine really benefits from being used regularly.
Also, not saying this car is similar but there was a report on the Z4 forum of a car bought recently on 56 plate with 6k miles and turned out to have been clocked somehow! You can do a lot worse than popping over on the Z4 forum (www.z4-forum.com) and having a look through the buying guides there

Thanks for your help. I'll walk away and will check out the other forum as suggested.
It was this car just in case anyone else was thinking about viewing (top ££ too)

Simon,
Definitly don't worry about slightly higher mileage cars, engine works much better once its used regularly. I picked up my Coupe after it had sat around for a year not doing much and it took a good few thousand miles under its wheels to clear an annoying flat spot at 5500rpm...
Since the alps trip it has sat around again, only covering just over 1000 miles and the battery has just needed to be replaced as a result... must get a trickly charger... actaully no, must drive it more!
Give me a buzz if you want any pointers (PM if you have lost the PhN sheet) and enjoy...
PS: Jan is still bugging me to buy her an Exige S1 like yours...!

My car's a late 57 plate coupe and only done 5.5K. It's a second car used in the summer. I've had the servicing done every 2 years and the brake fluid changed as per service schedule. So you will find a number of cars out there with this sort of mileage.. Mine is mint too..lol. Can't wait to get out on her soon. It's like driving a new car. I've just remembered I'll need to get it back on trickle charge as I'll be using it shortly.lolAlso, not saying this car is similar but there was a report on the Z4 forum of a car bought recently on 56 plate with 6k miles and turned out to have been clocked somehow! Here's a good general guide buying a Z4:

There are some really good threads with advice for M's on the site too.

I don't doubt there are cars with teeny mileage like yours, as with any car purchase it pays to be diligent
Was behind an M roadster this morning when driving to work. Subtle changes in the rear end compared to the coupe.
Different brake light, and it's still has the lock on the side and not on the BMW emblum.. Looks nice until you get to the hood..lol
Coupe still does it for me.. Don't see many Z3m's around these days. Which is a real shame..

Hood ? ... what is this thing you talk of?Edited by KENZ on Tuesday 19th April 10:08
Today did 120 mile round trip cross country... open to skies, sun out...windows down.... looking around at the envious people in baked bean tins on wheels....
and the pain to be in a Z4M and not hear the engine....

agreed. roadster for me definitely. the coupe is nice only becos it looks odd plus all the disadvantage of not being able to drop the roof.
Z4MR is faster than Z4MC too for your info. see link belowhttp://www.fastestlaps.com/comparisons/bmw_z4_m_ro...
