Hi

I am thinking about upgrading to a BMC panel air filter for my M3, I hear this is probably the most sensible choice for upgrading the induction for this car, as the standard system is already very effective. Having also recently had a ride in a CSL, i would like to improve the induction noise if possible! Do you know if I can expect any improvement for sound, fuel economy and performance?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that - am not expecting miracles but worth trying it out! Will have a look at M3 cutters.

Cheers

If it's oiled it will fook the maf, general consensus is a carbon air box and alpha n if you can stomach the cost, or leave it standard..

I've read that the BMC filter is not oiled as much as others (K&N etc.) so will try it out and see how it goes. I'm not expecting much, if any difference but worth a try. Like you say, a carbon airbox (or CSL airbox) and alpha n remap would be ideal but quite an expensive thing to do!

I have one and it's fine. Lots of lads on the M3Cutters site have them as well.

Update for anyone that's interested - I fitted a BMC panel filter about 6 weeks ago, cleaned the MAF, and removed and cleaned the air box and intakes pipes up and the same time. Anyway, no huge difference as expected, but the car feels much happier for it. It was slightly lumpy before under acceleration in the low and mid range, now it is very smooth (I suspect this is from cleaning the MAF). The induction noise is slightly more aggressive, not exactly CSL-like, but still much better! As for fuel economy, (one of my original questions), no huge difference but the computer shows an average of 27.3 mpg since i bought the car 10k miles ago, so i'm not complaining..
