Hi i have a mk2.5 1.8 with the 16" early sport wheels and i was wondering what sort of tyres are best? I drive in all weathers and have a budget of about 60-80quid a tyre.

Cheers

www.tyrereviews.co.uk

Search by car in the top right and gives some reviews and mileage covered.

No problem, or go by tyre size, that should give you some more reviews.

What tyres are you currently running? Are you happy or unhappy with them?

Toyo T1R are good in all weathers except snow & ice. Pretty much the best value performance tyre for the MX5.

Check out www.mytyres.co.uk for what's available within budget and then ring round your local independents for the best all in deal.

Haven't changed em since i bought it in march. Its running bridgestone turanza's on the front and firestone firehawks on the back (which i know are lethal according to reviews) the problem i am finding is on bumpy b-roads im forever being dragged into the side of the road with the potholes etc and in the wet the back is very easy to slip out.

You should swap front/rear. You should always have the best tyres on the rear! (I know this is a cue for the tail-out brigade to start shouting about ruining the fun but safety should always come first).

Which also get terrible reviews!

I've got Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 on my Mk 2.51.8 Sport and they are very good, and have the benefit of a funky tread pattern

I have heard that they melt at first sight of a track though.

I run Uniroyal Rainsport 2s all round on a 15" wheel and I find them superior to the Toyo T1-R for only slightly more money.

I'm a big Vredestein fan, particularly the Sportrac 3 - but they're not too common it seems.

Running Nankang SV2's myself. (Winters). Drrrriftu. biggrin

I'm running the Yokohama Advan. Great in the dry but somewhat skittish in the wet. I guess that's to be expected from a summer tyre.

Rainsport 2s - absolutely belting tyres and excellent value.

P Zero Neros on my Mk2.5 Sport.
I seem to be the only person in the world to run them on a '5, but they're rather good.
I was going to buy T1-Rs but couldn't get hold of any quick enough.
