Jap Girl Won't Shut Up!

After a couple of minutes of driving a consistent ticking sound can be heard coming from the engine when I prod the throttle. I imagine this is something to do with the fuel injection (Mk1 1.8), or could it be the exhaust manifold? Any ideas? How can I make it go away?

It probably just needs an oil change/ have you checked the oil level?

Thanks Towelie. Oil is fine, but that's about my limit mechanically, hence why I'm clueless as to what the problem is.
