I'm sure the cap says DOT3, what does everyone recommend?

DOT 4. I'm actually using DOT 5 at the moment but I'll be swapping to DOT 4 next time I change fluid.

Or am I using 5.1? I can't remember now, I thought it was 5 but I could be wrong. Either way, 4 is best.

Enough for a few refreshes. Not sure exactly how much it takes in total for a full fluid change but it can't be much more than about 200ml.

if you're doing a full flush, it takes about 500ml to get all the fresh fluid through.
use DOT4 or DOT5.1

Use 4 or 5.1. DOT 5 is a different chemical formulation and eats the seals (something to do with rubber versus silicone based)

yep once a system has had normal brake fluid in (DOT3, DOT4 and DOT5.1), the rubber seals will fail if subjected to silicon-based fluid (DOT5).

added to which there are no benefits whatsoever from using DOT 5 apart from the fact that it can last 5 years in your car as opposed to 2. DOT5.1 or racing DOT4 are otherwise superior in every way.
