Nardi wheel surprise

I've read loads about the early mk1 mx5/Roadster steering wheel being a bit of a sleeper, with plastic covering an awesome looking Momo 'wheel underneath...

Well I didn't think this applied to Nardi 'wheels until I was fiddling with the car at the weekend and revealed this:



To say I was surprised is an understatement!

Clean it up, and get a correct sized horn push to suit - then it looks nice (thats how I have mine).

No ta. Ever had to grab a lot of lock with one of those and get it a little bit wrong? The results can be spectacularly painful. I'll be keeping the cover on mine thanks.

Bare metal wheels look ace. I have the de-plasticked momo in my Eunos. Perfect wheel in my opinion.

S Works, do you often steer by the spokes???

Looks ace IMO, and I can't imagine slipping so badly you bash your hand against the spokes

Looks like it is non-standard, but the cover itself isn't THAT chunky, so still looks pretty good.

I was a bit surprised too! My view is that I've got a cool looking wheel without the faff of spending time and money buying and fitting a new one!

As it is, the original one (which is a standard S Special 'wheel) does look fine as it is and it's reversible in 5 minutes.

It's quite heavy though. When I replaced mine I was astonished when I doscovered how much lighter the new one was!

I have that Nardi wheel in my S-Special as well. I prefer it with the cover on i think. Thanks for saving me the trouble of taking mine off!

I think the main difference is that the Momo wheel looks ugly with the cover on and cool with the cover off. The Nardi wheel looks pretty good with the cover on so isn't much of an upgrade to remove it. On or off is a matter of taste (whereas it's a no-brainer with the Momo).

I know this. But what I meant was, without the cover it LOOKS like an aftermarket wheel has been fitted, which I guess is the attraction, but I personally don't think it looks that bad with the cover on it still.

Sorry, but the leather doesn't finish properly, the metal isn't finished properly, and the nuts are rusting.

It looks, suprisingly, like someone has broken their steering wheel.

I'm guessing that the plastic cover applied to the original metal MkI MOMO wheels was in order to meet US padded safety regs or something - hence its simple removal.

Similar to the crash pad covers on early TR7 wheels.

Got the same wheel..removed my cover aswell almost straight away.Not changed the horn yet though so she sticks out a bit!

Was going to holesaw some sporty polo shapes in it for a laugh..decided I should probably just buy a new one though if I get the urge for such a look

Being an MG Rover owner I'm saddened by the loss of any leatherette-effect interior detailing.
