just fitted some yellowstuff pads and new pattern part discs, they do have alot more power, but they seem to be locking the front offside really easily.. after quite a bit of hard braking the car seems to stop alot better (without locking front), don't know whether this could just be i'm getting heat into the rears and they're working better, but have to put alot more force into the brake pedal. I do know you have to modulate brakes not to lock, but the car doesn't seem to really be slowing down that much before the locking point.

I didn't change the brake fluid, but will in the next few weeks( think I've boiled it a few times). Looked at the front which locks all the time, and the inside edge is very worn, but the other isn't..

think the alignment must be out( very out), but the car when driven smoothly, handles really well( haven't got a well aligneed mx5 to compare to) and just takes corners flat all day long. Are mx5s just bad at stopping quickly? or could it be alignment making the car dodgy under hard braking?

could someone send me the wim fast road use setup? Know a guy with an alignment machine!
your views would be much appreciated, possible problems in my mind are:

alignment, dodgy bushes, tyres(14" falken 912s),

if the inside edge is worn, you may need to clean and re-grease your slider pins.

Yellowstuff have a "break-in coating" which is horrible stuff IMO. I think it's supposed to help the pads bed in but it causes them to be very grabby until it's worn off. 200 miles or so should do it.
Next time I fit some I'm going to rub off that coating with sandpaper before I fit them...

Just bed them in the Axxis Ultimate way I.e. cook them completely then leave overnight to 'go off'

Works perfectly for me irrespective of brand, when I had YS pads the bedding in material didn't stand a chance biggrin

Thread hijack.

Are these Axxis Ultimate as good as people make out?

I need new rear pads and will do the front soonish. Worth it front and back or just front?

Axxis Ultimate (ULT as they are now called) are better than Yellowstuff. Maybe not quite as good as Mintex 1144 but cheaper. I loved them.

As for bedding YS in using the burn-in method - I tried that. That bloody coating is just way too grabby, makes hard braking under control impossible, even light braking locks the wheels! When I tried to brake hard all 4 wheels locked up instantly - and that's with ABS! Next time I'm going to just rub off that coating and bed them in the normal track pad way.

where can you get them now tho...?

i'm having to consider a full set of yellows for my car just cos i can't find the axxiss and can't justify the cost of the M1144 (rear pads at least)

That's impressive. when I bedded in my set of YS pads the car barely stopped after they'd done a few 40-10mph stops, quite scary, but BTDT when bedding in ULT's so knew what to expect. Once bedded in they were IMO as nearly good as the ULTs with the added bonus of less dust and didn't squeal at light pedal pressures.

Skinny, have you considered Rodders pads? That's what I'm using now and I rate them higher than ULT's & YS

nice one, i'll either track down some of rodders or axxis from nutz, depending on who can do me sport brake fronts and normal 1.8 rears... smile

looked at axxis ultimates, steven at 5 speed quoted me 137 posted, so decided to just get YS.. they were £70 posted from jibberingloon on nutz..

i bedded my brakes in the axxis way with a series of harsh brakings from 40-20 60-20.. then left them over night. the break in stuff has gone now, think the rears were still bedding in though, they haven't taken the scoring off the disc completely yet either, but today the brakes when very hot stopped the car very well with no locking.. had too put quite a bit of force into the pedal still though once they were very hot!
