Hi,

I have a MK2 10AE and I'm looking to get a code reader, but I'm not sure if the ones I'm looking at are compatible.
The OBD2 readers seem to be standard for most petrol cars after 2001. 10AE's are 1999, but I've read that OBD2 was on some cars pre 2001?

Anyone used a code reader on a 10AE? Can I use any generic OBD2 reader?

Many thanks

Matt

I don't think UK 10AE has OBD socket.
You should be able to obtain error codes by paper clip + LED method:

I believe the (UKDM) 10AE is OBDI, whereas the readers most people use are OBDII.

There's a port on the nearside of the engine bay for reading the codes though, have a root around there.

I found the diagnostic socket/box in the engine compartment on the righthand side. Had look around the inside of the under the dash near the fuse panel, definitely no OBD socket there.

So it looks like the LED and code book method. It's running fine but just wanted to see if there were any stored codes etc.

Thanks

Matt
