Right, went to take the car for it's MOT this morning. So went out, took the cover off, opened the boot, and put the cover back in the boot, then closed the boot.

With the key IN the boot. My ONLY key. banghead

Can anyone give me some pointers as to how the devil I can get the thing open?

Email me if you don't want to post in open forum.

Is there an arm rest boot release in your car? If yes, I can pm you fairly simple method for getting into car without bending anything.

Aye, it's a MK2, with the boot release, and fuel cap release in the armrest.

No idea Matt, possibly?

Thanks for your email, I've just read it - sounds scary!

haha yeah I suppose it does, in practice its less scary than it sounds. But it did get me into my car without damaging anything in a few mins.

A decent locksmith would make short work of an mx5 lock I'm sure.

I'm partially deaf, so I said to the chap - "you'll have to excuse me, my hearing is pretty shoddy - how much did you say?!"

Nuts!

Snotrag and Tuttle, you both came up with roughly the same suggestion re the door lock. Only thing is, mine is a MK2 - I take it there won't be any difference?

I dont think there will be any difference in the method to be honest.

Its more down to selecting the right 'tool' as I described.

And patience.

That can't be for a mk3 though. They quoted me a figure in the triple digits. frown

Although I picked up a 2nd hand key last week on ebay for under £30. Just need to fork out another few quid to have a new blade cut, and £40 to have it programmed.

Seems a bit excessive??

Especially when half a brick will do the same job.

If you have the hood up can you not just unzip the rear window from outside? Fiddly, but do-able.

I would, except this is a Mk2 with the integrated glass window. This is about the first time I've found myself wishing I had a zip window!
