Each car uses a new British Motor Heritage MGB shell, into which Frontline shoves a 2012 2-litre VVC MX-5 engine. It's got billeted con-rods and crankshaft, forged fully-skirted and Teflon-coated pistons and it's been hopped up with a 45mm direct injection throttle body and closed-loop Lamda set up.

well i phoned frontline (the company doing the MGB with the MX5 engine) and they said no bother to tune the engine in our 5s, give them a budget and they will work to that. the engine they tune for the MGB has 215 bhp and would cost around £2300. if you want a bit less bhp then one of the things they do is throw away the inlet system and fit ITBs and that gives about 190 bhp but has the intake sound that a twincam engine should have, that costs a bit less. cleverly i forgot the guys name i spoke to but he knew his business. he also said he would sell the parts needed to anyone who wants to do the work themselves, and anyone wanting to pop along and have a chat just give them a call on....01235832632. they are 2mins off the A34 just south of abingdon. oh the only drawback is they will only do the work on the MK3.5.

When I was sussing out kits, I was suddenly only interested in a decent MP62 kit with an I/C and a standalone ECU.
Like I said, it does appeal, but I think I would only ever do it when the '5 wasn't my daily car.

Now that is very interesting! Any word on warranty? I am tempted... Did they say how much they would charge to just change the inlet system like you describe? Cheers :-DRaffles said:

hi they didnt say a price on just the inlet change, just that it was less as they dont change the cams. tbh he was saying so much as to what they can do that i was a bit lost. as to warranty i would think they would cover their work, but you can say good bye to mazdas, my first service is due this month so as soon as that is done i plan to have a trip up to them and have a better chat with them. i would realy say to give them a call though as you will not be dissapointed in what they can do, think of that MX5 race car shown a few weeks ago in the press.Tom.

No-one any more. It was originally made by BRP who also developed the first hotside MP62 kits. ISTR last time I spoke with Phil from P5 he actually had a coldside M45 manifold available. You'd need to source an M45 for it (the MINI supercharger is no good btw).The BRP CS kit died as it didn't include the supercharger, it was merely the manifold, which made purchase rather cost prohibitive as you had to go out and buy a JRSC and bin all it's mounting brackets.
