Looking at mk1's this weekend, couple of questions
Discussion
Hi all,
As above looking at some mk1's at the weekend. Couple of quick questions, I know the passanger side window on one of them isn't working, just wondering is there a simple way to isolate the problem so I know if its the switch, motor or something else.
Also I know sills and rear arches are very important from a rust point of view but they tend to rot from the inside out due to trapped water don't they? So how can you tell if there are issues from a visual inspection?
Anyone have any photos to show the difference between solid sills and ones that are starting to show signs of trouble?
Thanks

Not sure I can answer the problem on the PAX window - often it is just a Lube thing.
As for the rust, mine started bubbling (first time around and the second
) at the bottom of the sills just in front of the rear tyres first.
Want any adverts critique-ing ?
Well I'm in Ireland, but feel free to critique to car. Price is very over the top, but thats already been negotiated. Just wondering what people make of the car itself? Rear ride height looks slightly high to me, but could be nothing. As for the rust, mine started bubbling (first time around and the second

The other one I'm looking at is a word of mouth thing so no ads I'm afraid.

That's really MK2 money. just to give you an idea of what's about at the moment, Karen over on Octane is selling her 99 for 3250 http://www.octane.ie/forum/showthread.php?t=49255
And Hag's selling this for 2,500 : http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2247910
Neil sold his much newer RS for 3850 http://www.octane.ie/forum/showthread.php?t=50368
Flet's would have been closer to you,(Galway) but he's changed his mind.

Did you have a look on MX5Ireland to see who's selling?
If you're worried about rust, check that the drain hole have been cleared they're by the rear jacking points ahead of the rear wheels.

Its funny but I was on the verge of buying most of the cars you listed above, just missed out on Neils car, was arranging a viewing with Flet when he changed his mind, Hags car looks too low for where I intend to spend most of my 'fun' time with the car, (back roads of Connemara). I've checked MX5Ireland but nothing of interest there at the moment.
A friend has already spoken to the salesman about the above car for me and he's come down by over €1000 already, I'll judge it on its merits when I see it, but don't worry I won't be paying over the odds, and certainly not the laughable asking price, perfectly willing to walk away if I don't like what I see.
For me that RS at €3,850 is the standout bargain, especially with 130Km - absolutely the right spec and a great price.
Real shame you missed that one.
The Mk.1 you are going to look at isn't half as special as that RS - can you not hold on for a little?
I'd recommend a nice S Special (1.8 if you can) but then I am totally biased....
