I've heard them mentioned but don't really know anything about them. What have you been using?
Ive tried a few combinations, I've had Yellows all round, Axxis Ultimates front and yellows rear, then I was told by 5speed that Ultimates have been discontinued and replaced with "Stoptech" something or other. Had two front sets of them, the first of which provided good stopping power, but when I came to swap them out they were crumbling and in very poor condition. The last set I had went on in May, have done a little fast road and 11 Nurburgring laps and have completely fallen to pieces. :|
Stoptech aren't replacements for Axxis Ultimates. Axxis ULT are which are the same thing with an updated name. Stoptech are nothing to do with Axxis, completely different companies.
Axxis ULT
Stoptech
Maybe what Steve was saying was that his company had stopped supplying Axxis pads and were replacing them with Stoptech?

I thought it a bit odd to be fair, as everyone else could seem to get hold of them!Axxis ULT

carbotech's are meant to be pretty hot, XP8 or XP10
from an initial glance they seem to be a similar price to the CL's
probably too much for what i need tho, we're looking at around £140 fronts £120 rear for the lower rated (carbotech XP8 / Carbon Lorraine RC5+) pads and £160 front £130 rear for the higher (Carbotech XP10 / CL RC6)...

Really? The yellows on mine are decent enough. I still prefer the Axxis Ultimates but the yellows have actually been fine once that horrible bedding-in layer was worn off and they were properly bedded in on track.

Ah, mine felt like that before I got them fully bedded in. Going through the usual burn-in procedure I use for Axxis Ultimates didn't really do it (brake hard from 70ish to 15ish, repeat until brakes have faded to nothing then try to coast home and leave it until morning - no handbrake) but a track session sorted them out and now they feel fine, just like standard Mazda pads but with no track fade.
Carbotechs are the business - I've used two sets of XP10s on my Evo for the past three years after swapping out from a set of Performance Friction pads and they're in a different league. Immense stopping power and great pedal feel. They're very highly rated in the Evo owner's club too.
The UK distributor has just bought a Mk2 MX-5 so the pads should become more widely known about amongst enthusiasts.
If you're destroying other cheaper pads I'd give a set of XP8s a try.

my brothers mate has carbon loraine on his megane r26.r, they are supposed to be really good.. the brakes on his car feel like you've hit a brick wall, but that could also be due to the brembo calipers.. The brakes absolutely eat discs aswell, don't think hes had any problem with fade apart from he managed to boil his brake fluid at oulton!

yeah i've had a few emails to and back from ian at carbotech europe, seems pretty helpful and open to the suggestion of a discount on pads if peeps are interested The UK distributor has just bought a Mk2 MX-5 so the pads should become more widely known about amongst enthusiasts.

he suggests that for anything apart from a pure track car, XP8's would be plenty on an mx5.
