So I have a choice - 17x7 O.Z. Ultra-leggera, or 15X6 Enkei JDM NR-A edition wheels.

The wheels that are on the car are really growing on me - they are really light, they are fantastically well made, and I'm warming to the look. When I first saw the ad for the car I though 'oh look, cheap wheels, they'll be off within in the week' but it was a pleasant surprise to see what they were. Regards the drive they feel better than I thought they would. Its hard to judge though as I'm not sure how much of the difference in feel to the old one is the car or the wheels. Needs a Geo before I make any decision really.
Dropping the pressure to the correct amount has already improved the feel on the 17's a huuuuge amount.

Original plan was to dump the 17's straight away, but now I'm not so sure...? I love the white ones too! Tyre prices may have a swinging factor too but from what I've seen 17's arent TOO expensive. The O.Z's have decent matching tyres on thank god, Ventus Sports, with plenty of life left. I presume the wheels and tyres were bought as a package, as they are MINT not a mark on them.

Anyone got any thoughts? Anyone else run both sizes?

Confused of Yorkshire!

i love the white alloys, they look awesome. i had the choice between 15s and 17s and went for 15s mainly because of the price of tyres.

Gotta be the 15s. Those wheels in that colour on that car look bloody amazing.

Out of those, the 15s.
Why not sell both and get a set of the OZs in 15s if you like them?

Interesting opinions! I did love the White ones on the Mk1. They've just been refurbed so they are 100% mint - unfortunately no tyres on yet though or obviously I'd try them.

I'm not mad keen on buying a set of tyres for them only to sell them on again, but maybe I should take the plunge.

You are selling the Mk1?

How can you do that to the poor thing? It thought you would always be there to love it and to drive it like it should be driven, but you have now betrayed it.

Sorry couldn't resist. On a serious note, how much is it up for (if you say £500 which you won't I'll take it :P) and yes that is all my money in the world.

I like the OZs. Light wheel. Get good suspension on there to compensate for the skinny rubber and you'll be ok.

I prefer the 17"s but I think thats because I have an unhealthy fascination with Oz wheels like that - I'd love a set of black 15".

And you're white ones look awesome on the MK1.

The car has the Mk2 bilstein setup fitted. I presume its original, but still im very impressed with the ride so far.

And yes, I sold my beloved, beloved Mk1. Lad drove it away last week, 3 days after advertising it. It was a proper heart breaker, more so than anyhting I've ever owned! I'd had it 3 years, I didnt really want to get rid of it, but then again I couldnt afford not to. The only Solution therefore, was to buy a Mk2.

I'm super pleased with it, as it has the majority of the things I liked about my old one, but its got me all excited about being new, and a bit of a blank canvas. Its an excellent base for some tweaking - i'm sure were going to have a lot of fun together thumbupdriving

I guess really I need to get a set of tyres on the 15's dont I and see what it feels like.

So how long until you want another mk1? hehe

Hang on surely a mk1 is cheaper than a mk2, how does that work out? Its not like an mx5 can present you with a hefty bill :P

Personally I'm not so keen on the white 15s. They would suit a dark coloured car better (BRG, black, dark blue) but imo red is too bright. They would look good as track wheels but as a road car I think the 17s look "classier". You might say I'm biased as I love the 17" OZ Superturissmo on my red Mk2.5 but I do also have a set of gunmetal 15s which I also think look great. I would have sold the 17s a long time ago but I actually prefer the way it drives on the road with them so they have stayed and the 15s have become my track wheels and now have a set of A048s (not used yet, well not by me, they are off an Elise racer).

The perfect combo would be the 15's in the same colour as the 17's IMO smile

From a drivers point of view I would go, 15" will give that extra bit of compliance and I feel 17 is just too big for a MX5

I am also considering wheels and can't decide between these two Rota wheels:

People say that all the time and it's just not true. Maybe on a Mk1 17s are a bit too big but they are fine on a Mk2.

Is the damping and spring rates slightly different on the MK2 then ?

The wishbones are slightly different - I think the lower wishbones are a bit longer. Shocks & spring rates will probably be different anyway but they will probably be different comparing a '90 Mk1 to a '98 Mk1.

mk2 chassis is probably a fair bit stiffer too
