My budget Infinity tyres are very slippery in the wet so I need to buy some decent ones.

I'm not too fussed about make and something around £80 - £100 each.

What do people recommend?

Uniroyals, Pirelli, etc

You can still get them, at least you could a couple of months ago. £216 for four, fitted.

That's a really good price, where did you have it done?

Another vote for Toyo T1Rs. Not had them on a '5, but used them on several others and found the grip in the wet / dry vs price to be very good!

Lincolnshire Tyre Co., Warwick Road, Fairfield Ind. Estate, Louth, Lincs. 01507 609565. A family-run place, nice to deal with and have always at least matched the best internet prices. A good fitter too who is careful with your alloys.

A bit far for you Loopy, having looked at your profile.

If you can find somewhere that will price match, compare them to camskill.co.uk. I paid £153.76 for 4 195/50/15's delivered last month, fitting was done by a local mobile fitter for £12.50 per wheel - but even with that it was only just over £200 all in.

Camskills are doing Toyos T1Rs 205/45/16 for £73 each,I'm liking that price and I'm liking the pattern on them biggrin

or Falken 452s 205/40/16 (if I can have that size) for £63.20 and I like that pattern too smile

Hmm decisions!

Well apart from performance, looks is the second most important thing smile

It's a Mk2.5 Sport so will be on 16s and need 205/45/16.

Funnily enough (for me) 17" tyres are a fair bit cheaper than 16"! T1Rs in 205/40/17 are around £60! Still a fair bit more than 195/50/15 which were around £35 last time I looked.

If you are ordering from Camskill phone them first to check they have the stock. You can place the entire order only to be told a few hours later they wont have them for months!

That's what happened to me and I ended up ordering from here instead http://www.tyrewizard.co.uk/car-c4/16-c19/proxes-t...

Was the same price and delivery was very fast. But I would still phone to check stock.

toyos have gone up in price recently most places do t1-rs for £60 a tyre in 195/50/r15, an camskill is out of stock, ended up getting them from demontweeks, tried to price match with camskill, but he shot me down straight away saying i bet they're out of stock! so got them for 196 fitted in the end..

haha - so there isn't even a price advantage in using 15" wheels over 17" wheels with T1R now laugh

Uniroyal Rainsport 2's are excellent in my experience if you can source some - similar pattern to T1R but better wet weather performance and durability. If they did them in 14s I'd have them in a flash.

Quite good in dry and not great in wet.

Why not just go for the T1R? They are tried & proven on MX5s.

Another vote for Uniroyal Rainsport 2's. They get very good reviews from all the tyre review websites, and we've recently put a pair on the front of my daughters Mk 2.5 1.8 Sport. She drives quite, er, enthusiastically, and reckons they're great. We got them through Black Circles.
