What's a Eunos Coupe?
Discussion
Very depressing, this.
I have the opportunity to buy a near-mint '89 Eunos Roadster. I have a trade policy though, and I've been waiting all day to hear from my insurance company to see if there is anyone within their organisation who has ever heard of a Eunos Roadster. They have a Eunos Coupe listed, a Eunos Convertible, and then onto V-Specs and V-Limited.
I've been asked how many doors it has and is it a diesel etc. It's so depressing to have to deal with people who know nothing about cars yet work in the motor trade.
It seems that I perhaps should have told them it is a Mazda Eunos Roadster, but I thought insurance companies liked accuracy.
I thought that by now the Mazda/Eunos issue was well known and that there was no confusion over what is what.
Either way, if I can't place the car on my trade policy I can't buy it.

I had the same problem with Saga.
The back panel and sill plates say Roadster but the V5 says Coupe.
Acouple of minutes explaining that Eunos/Mx5/Miata are allfundamentally the same car and the deal was done at under £200.
I imagine that if Saga will accept it anyone will.
Why not reverse-engineer that "we share all information with other insurers to prevent fraud etc"
cobblers that we have to listen to every time and ask them to contact Saga to share their information on J450 NLO which is also described by Swansea as a coupe.

ds.Sheesh. Finally got a reply, and they're going to cover it. Hoo ray.
Seems the confusion was because I had valued the car at "seventeen-fifty" and the lady thought I meant £17,500.
I don't know why they ask the value given they're only ever going to pay out what they think it's worth.
Hey ho though, I might be able to post some pics soon.

Two reasons for this:A) If you value it at £6000, rather than £2000, they will up your premium, due to the fact your car is 'worth more' (regardless of the above point)
B) If you value your car at £1000 instead of £2000, they will initially only offer you £1000, and think they can get away with it.
Regarding the whole insurance doesn't know what it instance. With imports, as long as they know it is a 2 seater convertible made by mazda with a 1.6/1.8 engine, doesn't matter if you have it as a mazda eunos roadster, eunos mazda convertible, convertible eunos mx5 etc etc

Yep, maybe. I had to be careful though, to get it on my trade policy. They do have certain restrictions and I was worried about the grey-import factor. I needed to be certain before I bought the car.A) If you value it at £6000, rather than £2000, they will up your premium, due to the fact your car is 'worth more' (regardless of the above point)

But anyway, my insurance company took so long to get back to me that the car has sold anyway and I've missed it.
Shows what an excellent example it was - the guy didn't even advertise it, it went by word of mouth.
Bugger.

The whole Eunos thing is often misunderstood, even by Eunos owners. Eunos was the name for a family of cars from Mazda marketed under the Eunos name. This included the Roadster as well as other cars which including the likes of MX-3, Xedos 6, Xedos 9 etc.

As far as the V5 is concerned, I think the important thing is that it shouldn't say Mazda MX-5. MoT stations are supposed to enter the Reg No for the car into their computer which will bring up the specs for that make & model. The Mazda MX-5 has to have a catalyst to pass the MoT emissions test whereas if the car isn't found on the UK car database they use different car specs which allow it to pass the emissions test without a cat. Some garages seem to be a bit more clued up and ignore what the computer says but don't count on it.

Good info. Thanks for the offer Riknos, but I was attracted to this particular car because it was an early 1.6.
I had believed that Mazda had created a separate brand in Eunos, in much the same way as Toyota has with Lexus. Thus it seems to me that to refer to a 'Mazda Eunos' would be the same as calling a Lexus a 'Toyota Lexus', which seems plain wrong to me.

What Lazza said, it's not a 'Mazda Eunos Roadster' in the same way a Lezus SC420 isn't a Toyota Lexus SC420.See the Wikipedia page for more details.
It's just an Eunos Roadster period.
