Mine is due in a month or so.
Paid £1800 last year fully comp with admiral, just used confused.com and Swiftcover are offering £990 fully comp.
However, I get the impression I should be using some specialists. I've sorted calls with A-plan and Adrian Flux. Any others I should be considering?
Car is a mk1 1.8 '96. With different Mazda wheels on (declared them before just to be safe, they are from a 323), plan to do 10k miles tops
I'm 26, 2yrs ncb, owned the car for a year, license for 2 years.
Cheers,

I called: Sky, Aplan, REIS, flux, footman james, greenlight, rh specialist cars and hagerty.
I paid £196 for my lightly modified (no power mods) mk1 1.8 with footman james on a limited mileage policy. Definitely worth calling all of them as the quotes are ridiculously different. Also, join MX5-OC (£30), you'll get up to 20% discount.

That is as a second car but the discounts are pretty amazing. Price comparisons were coming out at about 600!
The phoning around has started! Especially since my current policy expires in 2 weeks (when I thought it was 2 months!)
Admiral renewal = £1100 (a reduction of £800)
A Plan = £1400
ETA
Footman James, with MX5OC membership, 6k miles....
£300!
WINNER!

Ive been looking at getting an mx5 recently, and thought I would get some insurance quotes.
I currently have a classic mini on a classic policy with footman james but when I called to get a quote they said they couldnt offer me anything at all, I have been with them for 5 years now, I am a 24(almost 25) year old student living in manchester centre but the car would be in a secure underground car park.
I also tried adrian flux but their best quote was about £4600.
Is it worth trying anyone else?

£4600?!?! Have you not got any NCB or something? I've just turned 25 and got insured with flux with all mods declared for £570.. I would have gone with Admiral for £440 but they wouldn't cover coilovers which I'm hoping to fit this weekend...I currently have a classic mini on a classic policy with footman james but when I called to get a quote they said they couldnt offer me anything at all, I have been with them for 5 years now, I am a 24(almost 25) year old student living in manchester centre but the car would be in a secure underground car park.

Sky insurance are usually good. FWIW I wouldnt use Flux.
Mind if I ask why you'd avoid AF?My experience of the process was about 5 years ago. But it was perfectly smooth then.
I phoned up.
They took details and called me back about an hour later with details on where to take the car.
Car got fixed, I got a hire car in the meantime, and paid my excess.
Bish bash bosh. Job done.
I'd sooner deal with Flux than Royal Sun Alliance....

I have been on a classic insurance policy since I started driving and unfortunately you dont get ncb with those types of policy. I think I will have to try a few different places once I am 25, as that seems to make a bit of difference, only a few months away anyway.I'm paying about £200 fully-comp on a 92 mk1 with a load of aesthetic mods with no no-claims.
This is via PerformanceDirect to Chaucer Insurance. Also I'm getting old....35....
Also they're the first car insurance place that has phoned me to check if I received my renewal notice, and offered to call me back a bit closer to the renewal date. Makes a nice change and makes it harder to accidentally forget to renew.
