Hi All, I would like to thank everyone who has provided advice regarding my mid life crisis between suzuki cappiccino and mx5. I have read all the links and taken everyones advice and going to buy a MX5 mark 2, seen a 1.8s, however insurance quote £500plus. Does anyone know of any cheap sites, want pay less than £300. thanks in advance.

I'm with REIS- they are the cheapest i've found. much better than run of the mill insurance companies especially on modified cars-

I'm with Chaucer via Performance Pro, fully comp on a mk1 with a few aesthetic mods declared (rollbar, exhaust, seats, induction kit) and it's about £100&something IIRC with no no-claims discount. I think it's classed as a classic car by them. They were also the only place that would insure an imported car with no Thatcham-approved immobiliser.

A-Plan, Sky Insurance and Adrian Flux are all worth trying, but most of the threads on this subject tend to throw up a fairly random selection of insurers (including mainstream insurers) so seem to be very sensitive to personal circumstances.

Obviously depends on your age and NCB but I think below £300 might be a bit optimistic - I couldn't get below £400 for a 2.5 despite 5 years NCB tho am 26 so age may be a factor.

OP wants a Mk2 so presumably would be too young for a classic policy?

I used to have a classic policy on a car younger than that. Couldn't live with the low mileage limit and other restrictions though, especially as it wasn't really a lot cheaper than normal policies.

Will the MX5 be your only car or as well as other cars. If so try Aviva Multi Car Policy
