Hi all,

Does anyone know how fast you can go when opening the roof of a mazda mx5? I wanted to work out how fast you can go without damaging it?

Also, if anyone has any nice alloys with new tyres for sale in London area please let me know?

Thanks,
Nick

Whilst driving on a piece of road, that in no way was part of the public highway and hence was most certainly exempt from the highway code regulations, I may or may not have unzipped the rear window, released the clasps of the roof and watched it slam back with quite a bang when travelling at 40 miles per hour; however no signs of damage have manifested themselves in the ten months since this may or may not have occurred.

I have put it down at 20, once unlatched at it got some air in it, it flew back, managed to just about hold on.

Wouldn't do again!

I tried dropping a vinyl Mk1 roof as I drove up a motorway sliproad once...certainly speeds up the process but it did make a rather alarming noise.

yeah it really doesn't take long to put down/lift up. Just do it when you're at a red light or something.

This is a good comparison!

It could be ok at higher speeds, but the problem is if it doesn't settle right when going down - if that happens then you've got an expensive mess to deal with. I don't see so much need, in that traffic lights etc can be fine for dropping it.

Ditto. I always do mine at traffic lights or in slow moving traffic, it's quite easy to still keep your foot lightly on the go pedal whilst turning round to unzip a window etc.. The whole process takes less than 10 seconds if you're good at it so why risk it whilst driving?
